Voss was a planet of the terrestrial type, found within the Voss system, which itself was situated in the Allied Tion sector of the Outer Rim Territories. This planet, documented in Legends, was originally inhabited by only one sentient species, the Gormak. The ancient Sith discovered Voss and exploited it for its resources until the Jedi intervened and drove them away. In an effort to gain allies among the native population, the Jedi taught some Gormak tribes how to harness the Force. However, the Gormak were not prepared for this power, and these tribes underwent a radical transformation, evolving into a distinct species known as the Voss. The Sith were eliminated, and the Jedi either left or perished, leading the Voss to establish their city, Voss-Ka, on a mountain peak. The Voss society came to rely on Force-sensitive individuals for leadership. Voss Mystics experienced Force visions that invariably proved accurate, Interpreters ensured the correct understanding of these visions, and the Three governed the entire Voss population. The nomadic Gormak, viewing the Voss as abominations, became extremely hostile and sought to eradicate them. Consequently, all Voss served as Voss commandos, defending their people against the numerous Gormak, while the Mystics developed healing rituals to treat severe injuries.
During the Cold War between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, the wider galaxy discovered Voss. Both governments attempted to form alliances with the Voss to leverage the visions of their Mystics in the conflict. However, the Voss resisted direct conquest, thwarting the Imperial Attack on Voss, and maintained their neutrality due to the efforts of the Star Cabal, whose agent Albathius persuaded them to remain neutral for three thousand days. When the Galactic War reignited between the two powers, Voss became a battleground as both sides sought favor by assisting the Voss against the Gormak. Meanwhile, the Sith devised schemes to discredit the Republic, smuggle an army of cyberbeasts offworld, and even hold Voss-Ka hostage. During this period, the capture of Gormak King Jokull revealed to the Voss their shared ancestry with the Gormak, while a mission by the Hero of Tython resulted in the demise of Sel-Makor, the source of corruption in the Nightmare Lands.
When the Eternal Empire of Zakuul conquered the galaxy, the Voss and the Gormak ended their centuries-long conflict and united against the greater threat. Voss Mystic Sana-Rae and Gormak warrior Rokuss left Voss to join the Alliance opposing Zakuul, helping to destroy the Star Fortress that dominated Voss. Later, Voss was directly attacked by the Eternal Fleet, which destroyed the Shrine of Healing and inflicted significant damage on Voss-Ka, until the combined forces of the Alliance, Mandalorian warriors, and the Imperial fleet repelled the attack, though thousands still perished. By the time of the Galactic Empire thousands of years later, Voss was under the control of the Tionese clans.

Voss possessed a moderate climate and firm ground, with roughly half of its surface consisting of rocky plateaus, pristine peaks, and lush forests, while the remaining half was covered by seas and oceans. Grasslands, such as those found in the Serenity Valley, transitioned into unspoiled forests like the Western Watchwoods, dotted with occasional outposts manned by Voss commandos or small encampments of the nomadic Gormak. Among the native predators of Voss were the mawvorr, also known as crysfangs, purple-skinned reptilians that were opportunistic hunters, preferring to attack wounded animals or wandering humanoids rather than engaging in careful hunting and stalking. Shaclaws, large armored insects with powerful foreclaws, used these claws to burrow into the soil in search of roots and subterranean mammals, but they were also capable of tearing through flesh or armor, aided by the deadly toxins present in their tissues shortly after death.

The largest and most dangerous predator on Voss was the vorantikus, a heavily muscled bipedal creature that roamed the wilderness as a solitary hunter. Voss also had a population of uxibeasts, mammalian herbivores that traveled in packs and possessed numerous horns. These creatures were believed to have originated on Tython but were spread to other planets by the ancient Jedi.

In ancient times, sometime after the Second Great Schism, the Sith arrived on Voss. At that time, the planet was inhabited by only one sentient species, the Gormak, whom the Sith considered primitive and disregarded as they began to exploit the planet's resources. However, the planet and the Gormak were forever altered when the Jedi attempted to expel the Sith from Voss. Seeking allies among the natives, the Jedi agreed to teach some Gormak tribes how to use the Force, but the Gormak were unprepared for this knowledge. These tribes underwent rapid evolutionary changes over a few generations, becoming a new species known as the Voss. The Jedi tried to teach the Voss how to control their emotions and new abilities, but the Voss instead attacked the Sith, exposing the new species to the dark side of the Force. This caused the dark side to manifest in a Sith structure on the planet, and this entity became known as Sel-Makor as it gained intelligence. Sel-Makor thrived on violence and suffering, fueling its dark side powers and spreading corruption across the surrounding area. The entity warped the minds of the animals and beings within its reach, turning them into crazed servants. The area under Sel-Makor's control became known as the Nightmare Lands, and the ancient Sith complex inhabited by the entity was called the Dark Heart. After the Sith were exterminated, the Voss forgot their origins and founded the city of Voss-Ka on the planet's highest peak, while the Jedi eventually died out or left. Those Voss who could use the Force to foresee the future became the ruling Mystics, and the Voss commandos protected the city. Meanwhile, Sel-Makor influenced the Gormak's bloodlust, driving the far more numerous species to attack their cousins throughout the centuries to feed off their dark emotions.
Following the Treaty of Coruscant that concluded the Great Galactic War between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, Voss was accidentally rediscovered by the wider galaxy several years before 3640 BBY. Upon learning of the Voss' prophetic abilities, Sith Emperor Vitiate ordered the planet to be conquered, and General Khypes arrived in orbit with a battlecruiser and several army divisions to demand surrender, believing that Voss-Ka was undefended. However, Khypes' cruiser exploded before he could contact the planet, and the ship's escorts were destroyed shortly after. During this time, agents of the Emperor's Hand kidnapped a Voss from the surface for the Emperor's own purposes. Realizing they had underestimated the Voss, the Empire claimed that Khypes had acted without orders, and both the Empire and the Republic began diplomatic overtures to the Voss.

However, their attempts to win over the Voss Mystics were thwarted by a secret society known as the Star Cabal. An operative named Albathius arrived on Voss shortly after its rediscovery and gained significant influence among the Mystics, becoming known as the "Shining Man." He convinced the Voss to remain neutral in the Cold War for three thousand days, giving the Star Cabal time to exert its own influence on the war and prevent the Voss from choosing a side. The Shining Man promised that the Gormak, the Empire, and the Republic would eventually be eradicated, and no offworlders would ever return to Voss. He was buried beneath Voss-Ka after his death. Around the same time, a Sith Lord named Darth Baras began plotting against the Emperor. Upon learning of Sel-Makor's existence, Baras met with the entity and promised the Emperor's powers if Sel-Makor would imprison the Emperor, who was inhabiting the body of a Voss in a long line of Emperor's Voices. The inner chamber of the Dark Heart was a place from which no Voss could escape once they entered.
During the Cold War, a Gormak named Jokull entered the Nightmare Lands and traveled to the Dark Heart, entering the cave known as the Dark Hollow, where Sel-Makor was most powerful. Instead of consuming the Gormak's mind, Sel-Makor chose to awaken Jokull's species' natural ability—the power to see visions like the Voss. Horrified by his corruption and viewing all Voss as tainted by evil due to their powers, Jokull returned to the Gormak Lands and became king of his people, determined to wage war on the Voss to prevent the Gormak from being corrupted as he was. Around 3640 BBY, the Emperor decided to investigate Voss personally and arrived disguised as a Mystic. He entered the Dark Heart only to find himself trapped. The Emperor was forced to battle Sel-Makor for control of the Voss body he was inhabiting. Weakened by the loss of his avatars and desiring the Emperor's immense power, the entity prevented the Emperor from releasing his spirit by committing suicide and attempting to suppress the Sith's mind.

Both galactic powers continued their diplomatic efforts on Voss until the Cold War ended and the two governments engaged in another Galactic War elsewhere in the galaxy, while struggling to maintain neutrality on Voss. In an attempt to secure an alliance with the Voss, both the Republic and the Empire offered aid in their fight against the Gormak. At the suggestion of their top diplomat Darth Serevin, the Sith helped the Voss destroy Gormegan-1, a starship being constructed by the Gormak under Jokull's orders. Simultaneously, the Republic assisted the Voss in destroying the cannon the Gormak were building to use against Voss-Ka. However, in the process, the Voss discovered Jokull's ability to see the future and enlisted the help of outsiders to retrace the Gormak king's steps in the Nightmare Lands, eventually uncovering the truth about their species' creation.
During the same year, Baras' apprentice had been appointed the new Emperor's Wrath at the Emperor's request by agents of his Hand, and the Emperor managed to communicate his situation to Servant Two of the Hand during a moment of strength. The Wrath, whom Baras had attempted to kill at the beginning of his coup attempt, traveled to Voss and located the Emperor in the Dark Heart after acquiring the Blessing of Oneness and the Pendant of Bone needed for entrance. The Emperor ordered his Wrath to kill the Voice and free his essence, but Sel-Makor refused to relinquish his prize and seized full control of the Voice's body. The Wrath was forced to battle the possessed Voice but managed to defeat the entity and drive it out of the Voice long enough to slay the Emperor's host. After taking a new host on the Imperial capital of Dromund Kaas, the Emperor continued preparations for his ritual, which would consume all life in the galaxy and channel it into the Emperor. To that end, he dispatched the Sith sorcerer Fulminiss to Voss, ordering the Sith Lord to use Sel-Makor's power to ensure the thousands of simultaneous deaths needed to initiate the ritual. Fulminiss approached a young Mystic named Valen-Da and enlisted his help to enter the Voss sanctuary known as the Shrine of Healing.

Inside the Shrine of Healing, Fulminiss learned a healing ritual from the spirits of deceased Mystics and corrupted it to twist minds and drive victims insane. With Valen-Da, Fulminiss traveled to the Dark Heart to meet with Sel-Makor, but the Jedi Knight known as the Hero of Tython was attempting to thwart the Emperor's ritual and tracked Fulminiss to the Dark Heart with the help of the Voss Commando Tala-Reh. Fulminiss fell to the blade of the Jedi Knight in battle, and Valen-Da revealed the truth of his vision, which showed that the Commando would descend into the heart of Sel-Makor's power and destroy the entity at the cost of her own life. Tala-Reh descended the steps to confront the entity, and her sacrifice counteracted Sel-Makor's powers, destroying the creature with a burst of Force energy and sealing the heart of power when the chamber collapsed onto the pit.

Republic Special Forces Division Havoc Squad was dispatched to Voss by General Elin Garza to prevent Senator Evran from withholding thousands of Republic soldiers from the war effort due to fears of another Imperial attack on Voss, despite the critical need for troops elsewhere. Evran personally welcomed Havoc Squad's Major in Voss-Ka and suggested they allow the Imperials to make the first move. Havoc Squad pursued an Imperial agent codenamed Deadfall, known for spreading subversion on planets before Imperial invasions. Havoc Squad fought their way into Deadfall's secret base beneath Voss-Ka, where they established a connection with Evran's office for SIS agent Kellor. Deadfall soon arrived and attacked, forcing Havoc to kill him. Based on Deadfall's data, Kellor confirmed that the smuggler Pol Blex had made multiple deliveries to Voss on behalf of the Empire. Havoc stormed Blex's hideout and learned from the Neimoidian that he had smuggled tunneling equipment and a ZR-57 orbital strike bomb stolen on Ord Mantell onto Voss. After Havoc thwarted the Imperials in Gorma-Koss, they learned from Evran that Kellor had discovered the bomb's location but had been shot down and crashed in the Nightmare Lands. Upon finding Kellor, they discovered the SIS agent succumbing to the Nightmare Lands' corruption. Before expiring, Kellor revealed the bomb's location. Havoc found the bomb and uncovered Sith Lord Torius' plan to use it to hold Voss-Ka hostage, foiling the Sith's plan and killing him.

Sith Lord Kallig, whose mind required healing after being overwhelmed by a Force walking ritual, traveled to Voss in search of the Forbidden Ritual that could help them. At the Imperial Embassy in Voss-Ka, Kallig met with Imperial ambassador Athelis Kallis, who suggested that the Sith Lord seek out the outcast Dream-walkers cult. Kallig arrived at the cult's enclave at the Mind healer's grove and, with the permission of their leader Asa-Ku, underwent their initiation ritual to learn their mind-healing ritual, which caused Kallig to enter the Spirit World. Upon returning to the waking world, Asa-Ku instructed Kallig to go to the Shrine of Healing, where Kallig was addressed by the disembodied voice of another Force ghost, a Voss named Mar-Da, who was the first dream-walker and stated that the mind-healing ritual was forbidden. Kallig forced Mar-Da to reveal that a dream-rock in the Nightmare Lands could defeat the ghosts bound to Kallig by turning them into flesh and blood, but only a Gormak could use it. Journeying into Gorma-Koss, Kallig used dream-walking to communicate with a sympathetic Gormak named Hadrik, who was weary of the conflict between the Voss and the Gormak. Hadrik agreed to perform the ritual in exchange for passage offworld and traveled with Kallig into the Nightmare Lands, where they found the dream-rock, containing the spirit of a Voss named Dal-Rin. Dal-Rin instructed Hadrik on how to use the rock on the ghosts and defeat them. The pair proceeded to strip away the ghosts' disguises and bested them one by one, after which Kallig used the rock to heal themselves. Upon returning to the Voss Orbital Docking Station, Kallig and Hadrik were met by Voss commando Sor-Nak, who declared that, for taking a Gormak off Voss, his people would reject the Empire. To preserve Imperial interests, Kallig used a mind trick to make Sor-Nak forget about Hadrik.

A bounty hunter employed by Sith Lord Darth Tormen arrived on Voss to eliminate Thelonia Redrish, a female Kuati General of the Galactic Republic who was leading the Republic's diplomatic efforts on Voss. Collaborating with Imperial Ambassador Methias Yoran, the Grand Champion of the Great Hunt uncovered evidence that Thelonia was secretly launching attacks against Imperial assets and attempted to persuade the Voss to hand her over. However, the General challenged the Champion's evidence at a Voss hearing, accusing the Hunter of being a terrorist, arguing that the evidence was suspect and boasting that she had undertaken a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Healing. Yoran, eager to portray the Empire in a positive light, volunteered that the Champion should also undertake the trials. Thelonia did not intend for the bounty hunter to succeed and convinced a Voss Mystic at the shrine that the Champion would interfere with the coming changes to Voss. As the Champion evaded attempted detainment, Thelonia journeyed to Gorma-Koss and surrendered herself to the Gormak, attempting to negotiate with them. While Gormak King Jokull refused to listen to reason, a few dissidents among the natives accompanied her to the Nightmare Lands, where she discovered inscriptions detailing the battles between the Jedi and Sith on Voss and their exploitation of the natives. However, she was then confronted and defeated by the Champion.

A captain of smugglers, recognized as the Voidhound, journeyed to Voss seeking a transaction involving Gormak cyberbeasts that the Exchange had moved off-planet for Rogun the Butcher, a crime lord. The Voss Diplomat Lokir-Ka volunteered to be the government's point of contact for the smuggler, leading them to Scratch, his Exchange contact, who was located in the Minev-Ra Caves. Scratch then connected the smuggler to Jela Reneke, who, knowing that the intended buyer was Rogun's most significant bounty, set up an ambush. She left the smuggler amidst evidence of her illegal activities and alerted the Voss Adjudicators. Lokir-Ka delayed the Adjudicators, allowing the Voidhound to make an escape. The Voidhound later infiltrated the residence of Gormak Zak, Reneke's partner, who displayed no animosity. Zak explained his disdain for Reneke because she had committed an act considered deeply offensive by the Gormak. Reneke, seeking to fulfill a special assignment for the Sith Lord Wratchen, had enlisted Gormak's aid in applying cybernetic enhancements to creatures from the Nightmare Lands. She led a group of Gormak into the Nightmare Lands, where the survivors returned driven to madness by their experiences. Gormak Zak agreed to assist the Voidhound, giving them Reneke's location. Reneke, suffering from the Dark Heart's mind-altering effects, was meeting with Wratchen in Lab 68 when the Voidhound disrupted their meeting, resulting in their deaths. Lokir-Ka insisted that the matter be brought before the Adjucators, with his wife Mirev-Ka presiding over the proceedings while Lokir-Ka was the defendant. The Adjudicators cleared the Voidhound of cyberbeast smuggling charges but found them guilty of other offenses, including associating with Gormak and venturing into the Nightmare Lands.

The Barsen'thor, a Jedi, arrived on Voss in search of a Voss Mystic to aid in their Hunt for the Children of the Emperor. They met with Sophia Farash, the Republic Ambassador, who believed that assisting a potential Mystic in completing their pilgrimage was the best way to secure a Mystic's help. Gaden-Ko, a young potential Mystic who would gain a large group of healers and Voss commandos upon passing the rites, had already started his pilgrimage in the [Old Paths](/article/old_paths] region. Concerned for Gaden-Ko's well-being, Farash requested that the Jedi follow him. The Jedi entered the sacred grounds, which had been overrun by wild animals. They rescued and healed Gaden-Ko, who then agreed to allow the Jedi to guide him during his pilgrimage to the Shrine of Healing. They proceeded to a marker known as the Ruins of Wisdom to pay respects to Lishi-Na, a holy figure. There, Gaden-Ko was ambushed by a Sith Lord named Shendan, who stabbed him in the back with a poisoned knife to frame the Republic for Gaden-Ko's murder, using a blade coated with a Republic toxin. The Barsen'thor engaged and defeated Shendan, then escorted the injured Gaden-Ko to the Shrine of Healing, where they immediately sought out Orin-Va and Asha-Mu, two healers who attended to Gaden-Ko's wounds. Upon regaining consciousness, Gaden-Ko told his guide that he felt he needed to complete the next phase of his pilgrimage, which involved contemplating an ancient carving at a sacred site to receive guidance. However, the carving had been destroyed long ago, with its fragments scattered throughout the nearby city of Gorma-Koss, a territory controlled by the Gormak.
The Barsen'thor located the scattered pieces of the carving and reassembled them at the Halls of the Righteous, where Gaden-Ko meditated, but no sign appeared. A squad of Voss commandos arrived just in time to protect Gaden-Ko from a Gormak assassin who had infiltrated the sacred halls and tried to kill him. The commando leader explained that the Gormak were operating a nearby mining camp where they mined valuable crystals. Taking the commandos' appearance as the sign Gaden-Ko sought, the Jedi agreed to go to the Gormak camp and shut down their mining operation. Gaden-Ko then declared that the next destination was the Deep Cradle in the Dark Heart, located within the Nightmare Lands. The Barsen'thor and Gaden-Ko entered the Deep Cradle and discovered three altars representing the three principles of Voss society: life, death, and duty. Gaden-Ko meditated at each altar, thus becoming a fully realized Mystic. Gaden-Ko and the Barsen'thor returned to Voss-Ka, where they spoke with the Three—Sonn-Vi, Gunt,a-Mer and Nen-Ji—who told the Jedi that Gaden-Ko's vision was interpreted as a need for him to accompany the Barsen'thor. Along with Gaden-Ko, a full entourage consisting of three vision interpreters, seven healers, and sixty Voss commandos under the leadership of Jenar-Sei joined the Jedi Master's crew, traveling on other ships belonging to the Rift Alliance. Gaden-Ko also advocated for the Republic before the Three, urging them to consider forming an alliance between the Voss and the galactic government.

Cipher Nine, an agent of Imperial Intelligence, journeyed to Voss during their Hunt for the Star Cabal. There, they encountered Bas-Ton, an Imperial agent who had undergone surgery to resemble a Voss, enabling him to infiltrate the isolationist society. Suspecting Albathius of being a member of the Star Cabal, Cipher Nine visited his tomb beneath Voss-Ka and opened the Shining Man's sarcophagus, where they found his ashes and a scroll containing his prophecy. The agent found out that the Shining Man had visited the Wellspring of Healing within the Shrine of Healing and followed Albathius' path, discovering that a recording of the Shining Man's visit to the Wellspring of Healing existed on a vitalicron. Cipher Nine unlocked the genetically secured vitalicron using a genetic sample taken from the ashes in the sarcophagus and played the recording. The recording suggested that the Shining Man had somehow created the scroll using ancient materials from the Nightmare Lands and used it to deceive a Voss Mystic. Cipher Nine ventured into the Nightmare Lands and reached the Chamber of Ashes, where they found the Shining Man's ship guarded by a Gormak named Xanar. The Gormak refused to accept the Shining Man's death and attacked the agent when Cipher Nine tried to take the ship's computer. The agent killed the Gormak and secured the data, which earned them a meeting with the Three. During the meeting, Cipher Nine revealed that the Shining Man had exploited his fabricated prophecy to persuade the Voss to remain neutral on behalf of the Star Cabal.

In the year 3636 BBY, the galaxy experienced an invasion by the Eternal Empire originating from Zakuul. After conquering both the Republic and the Sith Empire within a year, the Eternal Emperor Arcann strategically positioned numerous massive battle stations, known as Star Fortresses, in orbit around subjugated planets to monitor for potential rebellions. The Voss Star Fortress was under the command of Exarch Andur Melor and was defended by a shield bunker situated in the Pelath-Ri Marches. The Gormak considered the Star Fortress to be the source of a disease affecting their young, old, and weak. Faced with this greater threat, Voss and Gormak soldiers joined forces to protect their home planet, effectively ending their centuries-long conflict. This alliance proved surprisingly successful, as the Voss's meditative calm complemented the Gormak's fierce strength, creating a formidable army.

In 3631 BBY, Rokuss, a Gormak warrior, partnered with the Commander of the Alliance opposing Zakuul to destroy the Star Fortress. Together, they formed a strike team that attacked and destroyed the shield bunker safeguarding the Star Fortress before regrouping at the Alliance base on Odessen. From there, the Commander infiltrated the Voss Star Fortress and reached the Sun Generator room, where they disabled the safety mechanisms of the Sun Generator and killed Andur Melor. The Commander escaped on a shuttle, while the Sun Generator overloaded, vaporizing the entire Star Fortress. In gratitude for liberating their world from the Star Fortress, Rokuss and his warriors chose to fight for the Alliance, where the Voss Mystic Sana-Rae already held a leading role, overseeing the training of Force-sensitives.

The following year, the Alliance defeated Arcann in the Battle of Odessen. His mother, Senya Tirall, rescued her injured son and fled into hyperspace, hoping to redeem him. In Arcann's absence, his sister Vaylin seized the Eternal Throne and placed a bounty on her mother. Senya brought Arcann to the Shrine of Healing on Voss, hoping to use the Voss healing ritual to restore him. Having tracked her mother to Voss, Vaylin launched an invasion, determined to hunt down her family. At the time, Alliance operatives Theron Shan and Sana-Rae were already present on Voss and alerted the Alliance about the attack, prompting the Alliance Commander to mobilize the fleet in response. The Eternal Empire began deploying ground troops to Voss-Ka, and the Eternal Fleet opened fire, causing buildings to collapse and fires to spread throughout the capital. Theron Shan attempted to gather Voss commandos for the defense, but their forces were overwhelmed, so he led a group to seek refuge in the Tower of Prophecy.

The Alliance fleet emerged from hyperspace and engaged the Eternal Fleet. Meanwhile, the Alliance Commander, Lana Beniko, and Torian Cadera, along with a group of Mandalorian commandos, used a stolen Zakuulan shuttle to bypass the Eternal Fleet blockade and land in Voss-Ka. From the Republic District, the Alliance and Mandalorian forces clashed with Knights of Zakuul and skytroopers, while the Eternal Fleet's bombardment completely destroyed the Imperial District plateau. The Commander and Lana met Theron at the Tower of Prophecy, where the group received a distress call from Senya, who pleaded with the Alliance for assistance, promising that Arcann would join their fight if he was healed. The Commander instructed Lana to lead the Mandalorian forces to the Shrine, while Theron and the Commander traveled the Old Paths to the Shrine in the Storm Rider walker.

Inside the Shrine, they encountered Senya, who negotiated for her son's life. However, Vaylin ordered the Eternal Fleet to bombard the Shrine, attempting to kill them all. Senya asked the Commander to hold off Zakuulan forces so that the healing ritual could be completed and rushed to her son after they agreed. Senya single-handedly defeated a host of Zakuulan Knights, but as her position was about to be overwhelmed, she ordered the Voss Mystics to take her strength to heal her son. The Mystics complied and transferred her strength to Arcann, healing his injuries and mending his broken spirit, though this act left Senya comatose. Arcann awoke confused and, witnessing his mother's lifeless body, fled to his shuttle and escaped into hyperspace.
At this point, Vaylin had ordered the Eternal Fleet to destroy her entire family, regardless of casualties on Voss. Just as all seemed lost, the arrival of the Imperial Fleet, led by Sith Empress Darth Acina, turned the tide of the battle. Harrower-class dreadnoughts opened fire on the Eternal Fleet warships, destroying several and prompting the rest to flee in self-preservation. Although Voss was spared from the full destructive power of the Eternal Throne, it suffered significant losses, with much of the planet devastated and thousands of Voss and Gormak killed.
By the time the Republic fell, Voss was known only as an unremarkable mining planet. In the early years of the Galactic Empire, the planet became part of the newly established Allied Tion sector. The Empire tried to develop industries on the planet to rival Lianna, but the planet came under the control of corrupt Tionese clans who resisted these efforts. During this period, both the Voss and Gormak species were gradually declining toward extinction. Additionally, the Voss Mystics no longer held authority over the Voss but were marginalized by society and relegated to the Nightmare Lands. The Imperial Inquisition planned to recruit the Mystics but would eliminate them if they refused to cooperate, as they were deemed too dangerous to be left alone. The mother of Imperial fighter pilot Harme Kiela came from a wealthy industrialist family on the planet.

Voss-Ka served as the primary settlement for the Voss species. It was a fortified location that extended across several mountain peaks and was connected via bridges. The Judicial Quarter was situated on the eastern side, which included Seeker's Hill. Atop this hill was the Tower of Prophecy, where the Three governed the Voss. After Voss was rediscovered and visited by offworlders, the Voss decided to keep these "Outisiders" out of Voss-Ka proper. Instead, they established a special Alien Enclave for them on the western side. This enclave housed the Alien Enclave Market and the Ambassador Commons, which contained both the Republic and Imperial Embassy. Because all Voss obeyed the Three without question, there was previously no crime in Voss-Ka. However, the presence of outsiders required the Voss to create Adjudicators specifically to govern the actions of the outsiders, with dangerous offenders forced to take the Step of Harmony off the mountain into the gorge below.

The Gormak Lands, located south of Voss-Ka, were dominated by the Gormak. They established Gorma-Koss there, a large settlement for thousands of Gormak who united their tribes into a sprawling expanse of huts, tents, high-tech defenses, and technology. In Gorma-Koss, the Gormak constructed a Gormak cannon to threaten Voss-Ka and a starship named Gormegan-1, which they intended to use to travel to the stars. These constructions were supported by the Tela Mining Operations, while the Gormak King Jokull stored treasures and trophies from his conquests in the underground vault known as the King's Hall. The Voss commandos maintained watch over Gorma-Koss from outposts at Koss Overlook, Camp Talanis, and Outpost Skyline.

The [Old Paths](/article/old_paths] region, located west of Voss-Ka, featured a Road to Renewal that led to Serenity Valley and the Shrine of Healing. The Shrine of Healing was an ancient shrine of Voss Mystics and the only significant Voss presence outside of Voss-Ka. The Beastmark Hills in the south marked the border of the Flamewood, which ended at the Russet Slopes to the east, where a Ruined City stood, containing old traces of Jedi presence on Voss. The region was permeated by a network of caves, which included the Houk Syndicate Lair, the Mind healer's grove, and the Minev-Ra Caves.

The Pelath-Ri Marches were located north of Voss-Ka. This area used to be underwater until the Voss built the Err-Ka Dam on the north-eastern edge to hold back the floodwaters. The Crossing Woods covered the Pel-Ki Ridge and the Hills of the Ancients. When the Gormak invaded the region, they settled on Fest Otur Island and began cutting down many of the trees and building monolithic structures, resulting in the Clear-Cut Forest and the Barrenwoods. The Voss commandos maintained Kri-Ta Outpost, Outpost Overseer, and Pelath Point in the area.

The Nightmare Lands, situated east of Voss-Ka, were inhabited by deranged travelers and twisted creatures, all corrupted by the influence of Sel-Makor. Tainted wildlife roamed the Twisted Forest and the Crafted Blight. A Defiled Brook flowed from the Deepest Woods to the Sha-Thes Meadow, and the Lake of the Unseen provided a way for Voss Mystics to reach the Spirit World. At the center of the Nightmare Lands was the Dark Heart, a complex maze of chambers, some sealed and others broken from within, and a vast series of underground corridors that served as the center of Sel-Makor's power.

Voss, which was briefly mentioned in the "Unusual Suspects" article published in Star Wars Gamer 6 in 2001, did not reappear until 2009. In 2009, it was included in the Appendix of The Essential Atlas and received additional information for the first time in the online article Xim Week: The History of Xim and the Tion Cluster. Voss was a primary planet in Star Wars: The Old Republic, which greatly expanded its history, culture, inhabitants, and fauna. It was the penultimate planet visited during the class story and features a unique storyline for each of the eight classes, as well as distinct planetary story arcs for both Imperial and Republic factions, and numerous standalone missions. Additional content related to Voss was later added for the Bounty Contract Week event, the Gree event, the Macrobinoculars, and the Seeker Droid missions. Voss was revisited in the Knights of the Fallen Empire and Knights of the Eternal Throne expansions. The latter begins with a chapter set entirely on Voss during an attack by the Eternal Empire.
