Crisp-E-O donut droid

The Crisp-E-O donut droid, a type of cooking droid, specialized in creating donuts using an integrated oil frying mechanism. Chef Dexter Jettster owned a unit that could access a database with over 2,400 donut recipes; this unit would choose what it deemed the most delectable recipes and prepare Adarian-style donuts on a daily basis. Jettster initially used his Crisp-E-O at Dex's Donuts, his food stand on the planet Coruscant, and later at his café, Dex's Diner.

The donut droid known as the Crisp-E-O was a specialized cooking droid designed specifically for making donuts. Equipped with an internal oil fryer, it possessed a memory containing a vast collection of donut recipes. One particular unit, belonging to chef Dexter Jettster, could access more than 2,400 recipes and select what it considered the most delicious options. The droid's recipe database included various donut types, such as dianoga cream-filled, powdered Christophsian sugar, yowvetch custard-filled, muja fruit-filled, iced Trammistan chocolate, iced Endorian maple, iced with chopped ettel nuts, iced with shredded Ishi Tib-cracked coconut, and iced with dark matter sprinkles.

History

Dex's Donuts, a food stand located at the intersection of Zevanth Street and Avenue Peth on the planet Coruscant, was opened by Dexter Jettster years prior to 22 BBY, who had acquired a used Crisp-E-O donut droid. The donuts, made by his Crisp-E-O, were featured on the menu alongside freshly brewed caf. After an air taxi driver's carelessness led to the destruction of his food stand, Jettster received a settlement. He utilized these credits to establish Dex's Diner, a small café where he continued to utilize his Crisp-E-O donut droid. The droid consistently prepared Adarian-style donuts using its fryer. Despite having the financial means to purchase a newer model, Jettster preferred the superior quality of donuts produced by his older droid.

Behind the scenes

Doug Chiang's original concept art of a donut droid

The short story "Dining at Dex's," which detailed the menu at Dex's Diner and was penned by Gregory Walker, first mentioned the Crisp-E-O donut droid. It was published online through StarWars.com's Hyperspace feature in 2009. The inspiration for the Crisp-E-O came from conceptual artwork by artist Doug Chiang, which depicted a whimsical donut droid originally intended for inclusion in the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Although Chiang's design was ultimately cut from the final version of the film, Walker developed the Crisp-E-O due to his appreciation for unused concepts.
