Dex's Donuts

Dex's Donuts was a vending booth that specialized in sugary treats and hot beverages. It could be found on the cityscape of Coruscant, a sprawling metropolis world. Dexter Jettster, a Besalisk, managed the establishment, offering its goods to passersby. He used his remaining funds to launch the donut stand. The stand was unfortunately destroyed in 27 BBY by an unidentified pilot. Jettster then utilized the compensation he received from the taxi company to establish a full-fledged eatery known as Dex's Diner.

Description

Dex's Donuts was a modest stall situated on a sidewalk, specifically at the intersection of Avenue Peth and Zevanth Street on the planet of Coruscant. The primary offerings included doughnuts and freshly made caf. The owner was Dexter Jettster, a Besalisk cook, assisted by a Crisp-E-O donut droid.

History

Dexter Jettster opened Dex's Donuts.

Having grown weary of jobs that constantly forced him to evade law enforcement, Jettster invested his last credits to travel to Coruscant and launch Dex's Donuts. He later reflected on the stand's origins as a humble beginning, noting the difficulty in earning a living by vending provisions on the sidewalk. Much of the traffic passed overhead in vehicles high above, measured in kilometers. After several challenging years, Jettster considered acquiring a new location for a proper restaurant, but the stand's limited earnings made this seem impossible.

Fortunately for Jettster, in 27 BBY, a careless pilot lost control of his flying vehicle and crashed into the stand, completely destroying it. While Jettster initially suffered injuries—a cracked cranial crest and three broken appendages—he received a financial settlement from the taxi company. This allowed him to establish a legitimate eatery named Dex's Diner. He continued to employ the same donut-making robot at the diner, and he included the story of Dex's Donuts within the diner's menu.

Behind the scenes

Dex's Donuts was referenced in "Dining at Dex's," an article exclusively available through Hyperspace in 2009. The article, written by Gregory Walker, was presented as a menu from within the Star Wars universe. Walker conceived of Dex's Donuts to provide a definitive origin story for Dex's Diner. He drew inspiration from the story of Harold Butler, the founder of the Denny's restaurant chain, who began his business as "Danny's Donuts."
