A New Republic scout, namely Korren Starchaser, spearheaded an expedition aimed at the Serianan system. This mission brought to light evidence pointing towards an evolved sentient species. Starchaser unearthed multiple pieces of evidence supporting the species's existence. These included the inhabited planet Serias, within the same star system, and the Serianan Belt, which was adorned with runes of varying sizes. The density of the asteroids implied the runes were crafted by beings wielding tools demanding more power than Starchaser's team possessed. Furthermore, Starchaser stumbled upon five alien statues. The scout speculated that these artifacts originated from humanoids, though not Humans. The team collected the statues, documented the runes, and set off to analyze their findings. Subsequently, a group of alien xenoarchaeologists discovered the Serianan system's secrets and initiated their own investigations. A subsequent visit by the New Republic Scout Service revealed the independent scientists alongside prospectors seeking to exploit the asteroids. Later, a band of spacers fell victim to pirates who transported them to a base resembling one of the Serianan statues.
Following the discovery of evidence of a sentient species within the Serianan system by scout Korren Starchaser of the New Republic Scout Service, he and his team scrutinized the artifacts left behind by these beings. Their goal was to deduce details about the creators. Based on the dimensions of runes found inside a sizable cavern located within the Serianan Belt of asteroids, Starchaser hypothesized that the creators were humanoids but were definitively non-Human, and quite distinct from Humans.

The runes, brought to light by the New Republic scouts, suggested that their creators were spacefaring entities possessing advanced technological capabilities. Certain runes rivaled the length of multiple scout ships lined up, while others remained invisible except to specific sensors. This implied the creators had access to construction techniques unknown to the galaxy during the time of the New Republic. Similarly, the remarkably high mineral density of the asteroids, which made carving difficult, led Starchaser to posit that the species's tools demanded a far greater energy output than his team could comprehend.
The makers of the Serianan runes also fashioned statues depicting alien structures featuring domes, staircases, and doorways. These sculptures were composed of the same minerals as the asteroids, yet their density was lower than the surrounding rock, allowing an average humanoid to lift them without much effort. The statues, measuring 0.5 meters in height and one meter in width, exhibited a rust-orange color and were entirely opaque. The five specimens discovered by the New Republic team resisted scans aimed at determining their hollowness. A sixth sculpture was held by pirates who occupied a nearby base shaped to resemble one of the statues. The statues could be arranged to form a ring approximately two meters wide.

Korren Starchaser, a New Republic scout, spearheaded an expedition to the Serianan system. There, his team ascertained that the planet Serias, a terrestrial world, was inhabited. Moreover, the team unearthed runes etched into the asteroids comprising the Serianan Belt. The team dedicated the remainder of the expedition to cataloging the runes and exploring a vast cavern within one of the asteroids, which they named the Gulch. Inside this depression, they discovered additional runes alongside five stone statues nestled in a niche within the rock. The team gathered the statues and transcribed the runes for subsequent analysis. Starchaser resolved to keep the expedition confidential and to avoid contact with Serias's inhabitants until he could bring the artifacts and writings to the attention of Maxina Sensis, a xenoarchaeologist stationed at Daxis Outpost in the Jandolhoon system. Through this approach, Starchaser aimed to safeguard the Serianan system and its inhabitants from exploitation by outsiders.
Despite these efforts, word reached Starchaser that his discovery had been leaked. This raised concerns that Imperial remnant factions might lay claim to the find. Meanwhile, following initial analysis of the Serianan artifacts, Sensis advocated for a subsequent expedition to gather more data. In the interim, a group of independent, non-Human archaeologists arrived at the Serianan system and investigated the runes there. They made substantial headway in deciphering the writing and its history, as well as the relationship between the runes and the statues. However, the newcomers' procedures were less discreet than those of the New Republic scouts, and prospectors learned of the asteroids and came to exploit them.
The New Republic Scout Service sent another group to continue the earlier research in the Gulch. There, they encountered the non-Human team of scientists. The two factions allied with one another to prevent the interloping prospectors from exploiting the find and to share data.
Subsequently, a group of spacers journeyed to the Serianan system in search of the missing alien statue at the behest of their patron. En route, they were intercepted and kidnapped by pirates, who transported them to their hidden base. The structure resembled a massive replica of one of the Serianan sculptures. The captives investigated the connection between the pirates, the statues, and their creators. They also located the missing Serianan statue, stole it, escaped, and returned the statue to their patron.
Details about the discovery of the Serianan runes and statues can be found in the article "Scouts' Dispatch," published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 8 in November 1995. The article, penned by Peter Woodworth, presents an in-universe report from New Republic scout Korren Starchaser. The piece does not definitively establish the validity of Starchaser's assumptions about the creators of the runes and statues he discovers. The Adventure Journal issue contains two adventure seeds for gamemasters of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game; this article assumes the scenarios unfold as described.
