Battle at DS 5

The third skirmish at DS 5 unfolded during the Battle for Honor campaign within the larger context of the Galactic Civil War.

Background

In the year 3 ABY, Admiral Harkov, a former officer of the Imperial Navy who had switched his allegiance to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, was attempting to replenish supplies at the Rebel base, DS 5. Giving chase, Imperial forces attacked the shipments intended for the Rebel outpost. Later, the Imperials obliterated several freighters en route to the station. Darth Vader was directing the operation to eliminate Harkov, seeking vengeance for Harkov's earlier killing of his mentor, Admiral Mordon. The time arrived for a direct assault on Admiral Harkov's fleet.

The Conflict

Following the successful disruption of the Rebel supply convoy, Imperial forces left Harkov's Star Destroyer, the Protector, stranded. Imperial commanders then decided to destroy Harkov's defensive screen of TIE Avengers. Maintaining the offensive, Assault Gunboat pilots from Mu squadron embedded themselves within new TIE Avenger squadrons, thus evening the odds against Harkov's persistent Avenger waves encountered in prior engagements. The Avengers of Mu squadron returned to the system near DS 5 with orders to eliminate a substantial number of enemy TIE Avengers, specifically at least half of Harkov's squadrons, to prepare for the subsequent phase of the assault. Agents affiliated with the Secret Order of the Emperor had instructed at least one pilot from Mu squadron to scrutinize any incoming transport vessels, with the objective of pinpointing Harkov's precise whereabouts.

Imperial pilots observed two Cargo Ferries, designated Badger, deploying a minefield surrounding DS 5 as they engaged incoming Avengers from H-Beta Squadron. In the ensuing moments, Imperial starfighters clashed in a chaotic exchange of missiles and laser fire. Having completed the minefield deployment, Harkov's Cargo Ferries jumped to hyperspace as both rogue and loyalist TIE Avengers continued their intense aerial combat. As loyalist starfighter pilots gained the advantage, one fighter broke away to examine the new arrival emerging from the Protector's hangar. The shuttle Toten emerged from the Protector and proceeded towards platform DS 5, while the Protector prepared its hyperdrive. Avenger Mu 2 flew past the shuttle Toten just as it entered the hangar, confirming Harkov's presence aboard. Imperial fighters successfully eliminated the required initial portion of Harkov's Avengers as two Alliance Assassin-class corvettes, designated Wurger, arrived. Mu 2 then diverted to inspect Wurger 1 and 2, and upon discovering troops aboard, Mu 2 proceeded to single-handedly destroy the Wurger corvettes. With the successful destruction of numerous Avengers and the Wurger corvettes, Imperial starfighters departed the system to prepare for the final attack.

Consequences

The battle inflicted significant damage upon Harkov's treacherous forces. Following this engagement, loyalist Imperial forces launched a final assault on Harkov and his fleet. This resulted in the capture of the admiral and the annihilation of a large portion of his fleet.
