Zachary O'Halleran, alternatively identified as ZC-04, previously attended Coruscant Jedi Academy.
The arrival of Zachary O'Halleran into the world occurred to two business owners around the same time as the birth of Christina Starspeeder, who would eventually become his classmate. During his preteen and teenage years, he was a student at the Jedi academy situated within the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where he showed exceptional skill in the Jedi arts, establishing himself as one of the students with the highest performance. He developed romantic affections for Christina Starspeeder and extended an invitation for her to go out with him, but she rejected his advances due to her disapproval of his combative and sly disposition.
In due course, Victor commenced his studies at the academy. Upon his return to school, Zachary immediately recognized him as Christina's younger sibling, for whom his infatuation and romantic feelings had remained unchanged. He assured him that he shouldn't feel unpopular and guided him to his assigned dormitory, as he was unfamiliar with the route. However, he surprised him by mocking Coleman and Emett's aspirations of becoming actors. Yoda firmly informed him that he had obligations elsewhere. With a brief bow, O'Halleran departed Victor's dormitory to attend to his affairs.
Throughout the remainder of the semester, Zachary O'Halleran feigned the development of a genuine and intimate bond with Victor, with the ulterior motive of extracting information about the qualities Christina would find appealing. Nevertheless, his initial efforts yielded minimal success. The two shared lunch together the day after their initial encounter, following his invitation for him to join him and his group. One of Zachary's associates, with his clear consent, instigated a prank that resulted in Victor getting into trouble by pilfering his sandwich, which led to a food fight and Mr. Zefyr issuing Victor a detention.
Following Spring Break, Zachary inquired with Victor if Christina had shared any positive feedback concerning him, but Victor's denial provoked his anger. Perceiving the entire semester as a waste of time, Zachary vented his frustration by repeatedly striking the locker door and abruptly departing. Although Victor interpreted this as innocent heartbreak, the relationship between the two began to deteriorate when Zachary started flirting with Maya Phoenix and associating with him. Recognizing an opportunity to spite Victor for his lack of progress, Zachary overheard him asking Maya if she would accompany him to the dance. Reacting swiftly, Zachary employed the Force to spill paint on Maya and falsely implicate him.
During the final examinations, Zachary, consumed by devastation and rage due to his estrangement from Victor, attempted to sabotage his performance by telekinetically manipulating the stones Victor was tasked with lifting, causing them to spin erratically from a concealed location. Unfortunately for him, Artemis Oophanoe noticed his actions and intervened by using the Force to push him against the shaft, disrupting his focus and preventing him from succeeding.
That evening, Zachary orchestrated a confrontation with Victor by confining Maya and Artemis within an unoccupied locker, with the intention of luring Victor to him through their distress, which he anticipated him sensing through the Force. Falling for the trap, Victor nearly managed to free his friends, but Zachary intercepted him and confronted him. He accused Victor of turning his prospective girlfriend against him. In the middle of the hallway, he trapped Victor in a one-sided duel. Just as Zachary was gaining the upper hand over the smaller and less experienced Padawan, Christina intervened and propelled Zachary into a wall. While he was dazed, she destroyed the locker door and released Maya and Emett. Subsequently, Zachary was expelled.
Two years later, he started to pretend that he was a droid principal named ZC-04. When Mr. Zefyr began to doubt his true identity, ZC-04 panicked and manipulated events to attain the position of principal, thereby granting himself the authority to expel Mr. Zefyr in an attempt to conceal his actions. However, his utilization of the Force exposed his identity, and Victor unmasked him during the school play. After his security droids, manufactured by his parents, were neutralized, Zachary attempted to escape, but Victor employed the Force to trip him. Mr. Zefyr removed him from his costume as Yoda expressed his sorrow that Zachary's envy of Christina Starspeeder had corrupted his heart. Zachary was last seen being escorted from the auditorium by Mr. Zefyr. It is presumed that he was taken into custody and charged with theft, fraud, and attempted murder.
Zachary appeared to embody the antithesis of a Jedi Knight, displaying traits such as being bossy, arrogant, and overly confident, rather than possessing genuine courage, nobility, and loyalty towards friends, despite having a group that followed him around and occasionally initiated conflicts on his behalf. He held other students in disdain and mocked Emett and Coleman when they expressed their desire to join the Drama Club. He also demonstrated a capacity for sneakiness and manipulation, as evidenced by the lengths he was willing to go to in his obsessive and single-minded pursuit of Christina Starspeeder. He attempted to manipulate Victor into revealing how to charm her and tried to assault him when he realized what he really wanted from him. In an act of revenge, he cunningly confined four of his friends in lockers, hoping he would sense their pain in the Force, and as a final touch, he stole Artemis' asthma inhaler, further illustrating his cunning.
While Zachary never truly abandoned his obsessive pursuit of Victor, he did briefly engage in a romantic relationship with Maya Phoenix. However, this was solely intended to provoke Victor, as he callously imprisoned her in a locker and later displayed a complete lack of concern for the continuation of what mattered most to her, the Drama Club.
Zachary also exhibits a degree of hypocrisy. Interestingly, while he dismissed the Drama Club as being full of "nerf herders", he seemed to possess considerable expertise in the field, surpassing Victor, a trait Maya fondly acknowledged despite Victor bitterly claiming that such people were a dime a dozen.
In his persona as ZC-04, Zachary was a cold, bitter, intolerant, absolutist, callous, strict, and emotionless administrator who relished his newfound authority and reveled in the despair he could inflict with it. As Yoda once stated, as a result of his circumstances and the greed fueled by seeing Christina and Maya distancing themselves from him, Zachary delighted in retaliating against the academy that had, in his view, deprived him of the girl he was obsessed with, driven by a suppressed desire for revenge.
Although Zachary's parents were supportive and would eventually assist him in executing the ZC-04 deception, he held them in low regard, as he scorned Victor for heeding his mother's advice over his own. He abandoned his posse members upon his expulsion and never attempted to contact them while disguised as a droid. It is probable that he did not genuinely care for Christina as a person and was instead drawn to her immense power. Thus, it would appear that he was so arrogant and cruel that he was indifferent to everyone, regardless of their status or perception of him.
Zachary O'Halleran demonstrated remarkable proficiency in his command of the Force, effortlessly employing it to manipulate the actions of other Jedi initiates, lifting them into the air and propelling them into walls. Artemis even asserted that he possessed greater Force strength than Victor and all his friends combined. Indeed, Zach effortlessly defeated Artemis in a direct confrontation, catching him off guard with a Force kick. Although Victor lacked the experience to contend with him as a first-year student, by his third year, he was the sole student capable of dueling Zach on equal terms.
Zach also possessed considerable acting talent, as he successfully impersonated ZC-04 for an entire year, with his one significant flaw being his utilization of the Force while disguised as a droid.
Zachary serves as the primary antagonist in the Victor Starspeeder trilogy.
