Worrite

The Worrites were a sapient species of crustacean and insectoid hybrids, originating from a planet that was unknown within the broader galaxy. Reaching heights comparable to Wookiees, their physical structure was largely defined by a tough, segmented shell. Individuals possessed four limbs: two smaller ones used for precise tasks and two that terminated in massive, powerful claws. The Worrite face consisted of a collection of sensory organs and four eyes situated on mobile stalks, granting them a wide field of vision. One Worrite, Mazumoda, also known as "the big bug," departed his native planet and operated as a hired enforcer within the criminal element of Coruscant's underworld during the Imperial Era. His imposing presence and formidable pincers proved advantageous in his chosen profession.

Biology and appearance

Worrites were a hybrid species blending insectoid and crustacean traits in nearly equal measures. Their bodies were shielded by a durable, segmented exoskeleton. One observed member of this species exhibited a dark, muted red color in their carapace. They possessed a pair of smaller limbs, held close to their bodies, which they utilized for intricate manipulations. The remaining two limbs featured enormous clawed pincers. When closed, these claws could deliver devastating blunt force; however, when employed as pincers, they could effortlessly sever the limbs of most humanoid beings. Worrites stood as tall as Wookiees. This combination of features often inspired fear in those unfamiliar with the species.

A Worrite's face was characterized by a multitude of sensory feelers used to perceive their surroundings. Four stalks extended from their head, each supporting an eye. These flexible eyestalks provided the species with an extensive visual range. Worrites exhibited two distinct sexes: male and female.

Society and culture

Worrites demonstrated the ability to learn and communicate in a diverse range of alien languages. Mazumoda, for instance, was proficient in Basic, Huttese, Mugaar, and Rodese. Their large size and pincer-like claws made them fearsome combatants, capable of inflicting both crushing blows and severing limbs.

History

The Worrites originated from a planet that remained obscure to the wider galaxy. Sometime before 3 ABY, Mazumoda managed to leave his planet and arrive at the galactic capital, Coruscant. There, he established himself as a freelance muscle-for-hire, accepting assignments from various figures in the underworld, who nicknamed him "the big bug." The crime bosses Beuga Odell and Quetemoor the Sub-Elder, for example, employed him as a bodyguard and enforcer. Similarly, the bookmaker Tuchap used him to pressure clients who were late on their payments. Mazumoda's intimidating appearance and reliable performance led to offers of permanent employment from both Odell and Quetemoor, but he preferred to remain independent.

Behind the scenes

The Worrite species was introduced in Coruscant and the Core Worlds, a reference book released in 2003. This book, a supplement for Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game, features the character Mazumoda in its section dedicated to Coruscant, authored by Daniel Wallace. However, the book does not provide specific game statistics for Worrites in general, preventing players from using the species for their own characters.
