A whistling bird functioned as a weapon type employed by Mandalorians. These were compact, guided projectiles housed within Mandalorian vambraces; upon launch, they emitted a distinct whistling sound as they traveled through the air, ultimately striking their intended target and killing them via a small explosive detonation.

Around the time of 9 ABY, a Mandalorian known as "the Armorer" crafted whistling birds for the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin. Subsequently, he utilized these whistling birds to eliminate four stormtroopers simultaneously during a mission aimed at rescuing Grogu on the planet Nevarro. Later, during a scuffle with the Devaronian mercenary Burg, he deployed several whistling birds, but due to the room's limited space, he was unable to successfully hit his target. In 35 ABY, the bounty hunter Carib Diss possessed a Mandalorian rocket gauntlet equipped with whistling birds while he was located on Kijimi.

The initial appearance of whistling birds occurred in Chapter 3 of The Mandalorian, a Disney+ television series from 2019 created by Jon Favreau, which was broadcast on November 22, 2019.
