Burg

Burg, a Devaronian male, plied his trade as a mercenary during the New Republic era. He served as the muscle for a team that Ranzar Malk assembled to rescue the prisoner Qin from the Bothan-5, a New Republic Correctional Transport. This crew also consisted of Migs Mayfeld, Xi'an, Q9-0, and the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, the latter being brought on board for the use of his gunship, the Razor Crest. Subsequent to Qin's rescue, Burg and the others double-crossed Djarin, confining him in a holding cell. However, the Mandalorian successfully broke free, subdued the team, imprisoned them aboard the transport, and proceeded alone to deliver Qin to Malk.

Biography

Team Assembly

Burg is introduced to Din Djarin.

Burg, a male Devaronian hailing from Devaron, was a mercenary active in the New Republic era. Around 9 ABY, the criminal Ranzar Malk enlisted Burg into a team spearheaded by fellow mercenary Migs Mayfeld. This group also featured the droid Zero, the Twi'lek Xi'an, and Din Djarin, the Mandalorian bounty hunter. Their mission was to extract Qin from the Bothan-5, a [New Republic Correctional Transport](/article/new_republic_correctional_transport]. While the Devaronian hauled a crate, Mayfeld made introductions to Djarin, characterizing Burg as the team's muscle. Burg then set down the crate, approached the Mandalorian, and, with a sneer, commented that he had anticipated Mandalorians being larger in stature. As the team embarked on Djarin's starship, the Razor Crest, Burg derided its size.

During their travels, Burg roamed the ship's interior, irritating Xi'an, who instructed the Devaronian to take a seat. He grunted in response to the Twi'lek, who snarled back. Burg then began fiddling with the controls, inadvertently opening a weapons locker. As he examined the weapons with evident delight, Djarin intervened, closing the locker and provoking the Devaronian's ire. Tensions escalated between the two, with Burg questioning the necessity of a Mandalorian on the team. Mayfeld responded, asserting that Mandalorians were reputed to be the greatest warriors in the galaxy. Burg then inquired as to why they were all deceased, eliciting laughter from Mayfeld and Xi'an. The team then pressed Djarin on why he never removed his helmet, and they erupted in laughter when Mayfeld speculated whether he was a Gungan. When Mayfeld suggested he remove his helmet, Burg attempted to do so, but the Mandalorian fought back, leading to a brawl between the two. During the conflict, the Devaronian inadvertently opened the chamber housing Grogu, revealing his existence to the team. Zero immediately disengaged the ship from hyperspace and maneuvered around the prison vessel, causing everyone to lose their balance.

The Undertaking

Burg and his team infiltrate the prison ship.

Upon docking, the team breached the prison ship and initiated their search for Qin, with Burg entering after Mayfeld and Xi'an. While progressing through the hallway leading to the control center, they came across a mouse droid. Burg played with the droid briefly before shooting it, thereby alerting a contingent of N5 sentry droids to their location. The team found themselves trapped in the hallway, but they watched as Djarin bypassed the droids and eliminated them. They then ridiculed his actions, with Burg deliberately bumping into him.

The team entered the control room, where they discovered a human soldier named Lant Davan manning the controls. As they surrounded the soldier, Davan revealed a tracking beacon. While Djarin attempted to negotiate, a tense standoff ensued, with Burg siding with Mayfeld, who advocated for Davan's execution. The standoff concluded when Xi'an killed the soldier by hurling a dagger into his abdomen, but not before he activated the beacon. Now facing a strict deadline, Burg and the team hastened toward Qin's cell. Upon encountering an R1 Security Droid, Burg charged at the droid, seized it, and proceeded to smash it against the ground. He then hurled the droid at another approaching droid, destroying both.

The Double-Cross

Upon reaching Qin's cell and unlocking it, Burg shoved Djarin into the cell as the team proceeded with their betrayal. As Burg and the team headed back to the ship, they were halted when Djarin escaped and returned to the control room, extinguishing the lights and sealing the doors. As they continued their hurried retreat to the ship, a door abruptly closed between them, separating the team and trapping Burg with Xi'an. The two then agreed to split up and locate Djarin. The Devaronian returned to the control room and searched for the Mandalorian. The latter then attempted to strangle Burg from the vents using his fibercord whip, but Burg pulled him down to the ground.

Burg fights Djarin.

Burg restrained Djarin on the ground while the Mandalorian attempted to deploy his weapons. Countering each of his attempts, Burg tossed Djarin around the control room. However, when positioned in front of the doors, Djarin knocked him into the entrance and destroyed the controls, causing one of the doors to close on Burg. He used his strength to lift the door, but the Mandalorian activated another door, which closed around his face, severing his horns. The Mandalorian later subdued Xi'an and Mayfeld and imprisoned them on the ship along with Burg, leaving them behind as Djarin delivered Qin back to Malk alone and destroyed Zero in the process.

Personality and Characteristics

Burg demonstrates his strength against a New Republic security droid.

Burg was a male Devaronian characterized by red skin, blue eyes, and numerous scars on his face. He frequently used his size and strength to intimidate others, particularly Djarin, on numerous occasions during their rescue mission.

Skills and Capabilities

While he relied on brute strength, Burg carried dual DL-21 blasters.

Besides wielding blasters, Burg was immune to fire, as evidenced by his reaction to Djarin spraying him with a flamethrower – he simply shook it off. Burg also possessed considerable strength, which he displayed at various points during Qin's rescue. He could effortlessly lift and throw an entire security droid, and he was capable of holding up a closing security door. During his confrontation with Djarin, Burg maintained the advantage until he was positioned in front of the door, where the Mandalorian knocked him into the entrance and incapacitated him by closing both doors.

Gear

Burg wore a lengthy, brown coat paired with brown pants and boots. He carried two DL-21 blaster pistols in holsters on his legs. However, he primarily relied on his physical strength throughout the mission, only employing the blasters to eliminate a mouse droid and aim at Davan during the standoff in the control room.

Behind the Curtain

Burg made an appearance in the sixth episode of The Mandalorian, a 2019 television series created by Jon Favreau, which was broadcast on December 13, 2019. He was played by Clancy Brown, with Justin Anthony Williams acting as his stunt double.
