The brief engagement known as the Test of the Droids unfolded within the city of Edic Bar on the planet of Genarius, during the era of the Clone Wars. Jedi Master Lanius Qel-Bertuk, in preparation for hosting Jedi Trials for students from the Almas Academy, dispatched a contingent of Jedi belonging to the Heroes of Cularin. Their mission: to acquire lightsaber components from Snem Noonb, a Sullustan operating a manufacturing business in Edic Bar. As a training exercise for these agents, Qel-Bertuk, in collaboration with Noonb, conceived the "Test of the Droids," where Noonb would program droids to simulate a droid rebellion upon the heroes' arrival. However, an operative working for Zelice Sturm, a criminal based on Genarius, secretly altered the droids' programming, causing a genuine uprising that exceeded Noonb's control. The heroes successfully subdued the droids, prompting Noonb to contact Qel-Bertuk and report the tampering.
Ronald A. Heintz originated the Test of the Droids, which was featured in The Way of the Force, a Living Force adventure. Within the adventure, players assume the role-play of the Heroes of Cularin, with the possibility of their characters being members of the Jedi Order. The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia later referenced the test, labeling the participating agents as "Jedi Knights," thereby confirming the Jedi status of the Heroes of Cularin members involved.
