During the New Sith Wars, fresh faces in the army of the Sith Brotherhood of Darkness were issued the TC-22 blaster rifle. Later, around 1.5 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War, both soldiers of the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance were using a modernized version of this blaster rifle.
The TC-22 blaster rifle required two hands to operate, firing a single bolt with each press of the trigger. A common flaw in TC-model blasters was the slight misalignment of the sights on the TC-22. Over time, the scope often drifted out of alignment, a problem easily remedied with minor adjustments. Boasting reasonable firepower, the rifle had an effective range of up to sixty-four meters, but each power pack only provided enough energy for fifty shots before requiring replacement. The Galactic Civil War variant was black with a blue firing chamber, and the scope was situated near the wire stock.
Sometime before the Battle of Phaseera in 1002 BBY, the TC-22 rifles began production. As the standard-issue rifle for most soldiers within the army of the Sith Brotherhood of Darkness's, the TC-22 was typically given to new recruits and lower-ranking personnel. Dessel, a Sergeant and former cortosis miner hailing from the planet Apatros, favored the TC-22 during his time as a member of the Gloom Walkers, a unit within the Brotherhood of Darkness.
More than a millennium later, during the Galactic Civil War, an updated version of the TC-22 blaster rifle was still in service. By 1.5 ABY, both the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire soldiers utilized this updated model. The TC-22 could be acquired from either an Imperial recruiter or Rebel recruiter as a reward for notable battlefield performance. Some of these TC-22s even bore the inscription "Rule by the Strong" on their barrels, a nod to the long-gone Brotherhood that once used them.
The TC-22 blaster rifle made its debut in the novel Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, penned by Drew Karpyshyn and released on September 26, 2006. Subsequently, it was incorporated into the video game Star Wars Galaxies with the arrival of Game Update 15 on January 26, 2010.
Game Update 15 brought the Galactic Civil War update, introducing player-versus-player and player-versus-environment invasions to the online world. These invasions occurred every two hours within the cities of Dearic, Keren, and Bestine. Players could earn reward tokens by completing specific objectives during these invasions, which could then be exchanged with either a Rebel or Imperial recruiter for various items, including the TC-22. As a purchasable item, the TC-22 cost 1,000 tokens and could be transformed into a schematic by players, which then could be given to a trader and recreated into a more powerful version of the weapon.
