A space dinghy, often referred to simply as a dinghy, was a compact, short spacecraft featuring a plastic roof and designed for short-distance transport. These vessels were piloted by individuals called "ferrymen" or dinghy drivers, who controlled the craft from a dome located on the side, connecting to arriving ships via a specialized suction tub.
In approximately 9 ABY, the pirate haven of Borgo Prime employed several dinghies for the purpose of moving personnel between their vessels and the docking facilities, traversing a port shield in the process. Also during that year, the crew of the Onyx Cinder utilized a dinghy operated by a Teek ferrman to access the port and later make their getaway from Captain Brutus' crew.
The initial appearance of dinghies was in "Way, Way Out Past the Barrier," the second installment of the live-action Disney+ show Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which was broadcast on December 2, 2024.
