Rolf Treidum

Rolf Treidum, a male Human from the era of the Galactic Civil War, distinguished himself as a member of the Imperial Navy. While serving in the Deep Core, he crossed paths with a young officer, Kentor Sarne, and quickly became a devoted follower. Consequently, when Sarne ascended to the position of Moff over the Kathol sector, Treidum requested a transfer to the Kathol Sector Imperial Fleet and assumed command of the CR90 corvette named Lialic II. Following the Battle of Endor, which resulted in the death of Emperor Palpatine and the loss of Treidum's only son, Treidum remained loyal to Moff Sarne. He aided Sarne in withdrawing the Kathol sector from the Galactic Empire to establish himself as a warlord. In 8 ABY, after the New Republic successfully liberated the planet Kal'Shebbol, Treidum, aboard the Lialic II, accompanied Sarne in his retreat into the Kathol sector's remote regions.

However, Sarne discovered that the New Republic had dispatched the CR90 corvette FarStar with orders to track him down. He then instructed Treidum, in command of the Lialic II, to head back to the Kathol Outback and delay the vessel for as long as possible. Sarne's intention was for the FarStar to eventually locate him, thereby drawing in a New Republic strike force, but he wanted this to occur on his terms and at a location of his choosing. His strategy involved decisively defeating the New Republic forces in the area, which would allow him to regain control of the sector without opposition. Therefore, Treidum's mandate was to merely impede the vessel, not destroy it. Treidum, renaming the Lialic II the Lance of Endor, adopted the persona of a New Republic officer. He aimed to sow discontent against the New Republic and the FarStar by falsely presenting the government as an oppressive regime seeking to dominate all planets. Treidum successfully deceived several governments, including the Kathol Republic and the leaders of Danoor, with this deception. While Treidum did manage to delay the FarStar during its journey through the Kathol Outback, his success was short-lived. He perished in the Battle of Danoor when the Lialic II was struck by an Aing-Tii Sanhedrim ship.

Biography

Imperial service

During the Galactic Civil War, Rolf Treidum, a male Human, served in the Imperial Navy stationed in the Deep Core. It was during this time that he first encountered Kentor Sarne, an officer. Treidum swiftly aligned himself with the ambitious young man, a choice that would shape the course of his career. At some point, Treidum became a father to a son, who followed his father's path and joined the Imperial Military.

Kentor Sarne

Around 2 BBY, Kentor Sarne was appointed as Moff of the Kathol sector. Treidum transferred to the Kathol Sector Imperial Fleet sometime thereafter. Under Sarne's command, he led the Corellian Engineering Corporation CR90 corvette Lialic II, one of several corvettes within Sarne's fleet. In 4 ABY, the Alliance to Restore the Republic engaged Imperial forces above the forest moon of Endor. This battle resulted in the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, as well as the destruction of the second Death Star. Treidum's only son was killed during this conflict.

As Moff Sarne quietly withdrew the Kathol sector from the Empire, Treidum continued to serve him. Sarne aimed to establish himself as a warlord, capitalizing on the confusion within the Imperial command structure following the Emperor's death. In 8 ABY, the New Republic launched an assault on Kal'Shebbol, Sarne's capital. Sarne managed to escape into the Kathol sector with most of his forces, including Treidum and the Lialic II.

A new mission

Moff Sarne discovered that the New Republic had dispatched a lone ship, the FarStar, to track him down and neutralize any potential threat he posed to the region's security. The FarStar, previously known as the Renegade, was undergoing extensive modifications and had once belonged to Sarne's fleet. One particular modification allowed Sarne to monitor the vessel's location continuously.

The FarStar, Treidum's quarry

Sarne intended for the FarStar to follow him, leading to a larger confrontation with New Republic forces at a location of his choosing. However, he needed to control the corvette's timetable. Sarne planned to decisively defeat the New Republic forces in the Kathol sector, allowing him to reclaim his former territories and reoccupy Kal'Shebbol unopposed. He couldn't allow the FarStar to discover his location prematurely, nor could he discourage them to the point of abandoning their mission. Therefore, Sarne ordered Treidum to detach the Lialic II and return to the Kathol Outback. Treidum's orders were to delay the FarStar by any means, sow resentment against the New Republic to deny them potential allies, but to avoid destroying or crippling the corvette. Sarne expected a full report proving Treidum's innocence if the FarStar was destroyed by external forces.

Opposing the FarStar

Treidum conceived a plan to accomplish both objectives. He renamed the Lialic II as the Lance of Endor, aware of the irony in associating the vessel's new name with the place where his son died. Posing as a New Republic emissary, he approached several Outback planets. He welcomed them into the New Republic, then made impossible demands of the local populations. When they couldn't comply, he attacked them with the Lialic II's weapons. Treidum's strategy was effective, turning several neutral planets against the New Republic.

Sarne instructed Treidum to delay the FarStar in the Kathol Republic, a small empire centered in the Episol system. Treidum's reconnaissance indicated that the Kathol Republic's navy posed a threat to the FarStar. Upon arriving in the Episol system, Treidum demanded the annexation of all Kathol Republic worlds, a fifty percent tax on products and resources, the forced sterilization of all colonists, and the replacement of elected officials with New Republic appointees. After reporting his plan to Sarne, the Moff lured the FarStar to the system by intentionally broadcasting his response on a wide-beam transmission, confident that the New Republic ship would intercept it.

The Bravado III following its battle with the Lialic II

When the Kathol Republic refused his demands, Treidum attacked two of the Republic's Marauder-class corvettes, destroying one and damaging the Bravado III. As he prepared to engage another target, the FarStar arrived. Treidum withdrew the Lialic II from the system, leaving the FarStar to face the Kathol Republic Navy. The New Republic corvette surrendered to avoid a confrontation, and the Kathol Republic impounded the vessel, taking her crew for trial on Dayark, the Republic's capital moon. Despite being perplexed as to why the Kathol Republic considered the New Republic vessel a threat, Captain Kaiya Adrimetrum, commander of the FarStar, convinced the Kathol Republic Senatorial Council of their innocence and exposed a plot by one of their own senators to overthrow the elected leadership. Grateful to the crew of the FarStar, the Kathol Republic allowed the ship to depart, providing them with information about another corvette posing as a New Republic vessel, and becoming a new ally.

Shortly after the Lialic II's mission to Episol, Captain Treidum, acting on Moff Sarne's orders, sent a Gamma-class assault shuttle to rendezvous with the Qektoth Confederation. The Confederation, a militant order of scientists and idealists, believed in the purity of organic technology. Sarne had agreed to exchange ships and crews for their bioweapons. The Confederation used the [Gamma_-class assault shuttle as a testing ground for their biochemical agent.

Final gambit

Treidum continued his mission, visiting Danoor on the edge of the Kathol Rift. He demanded the colony's complete surrender, annual tribute equal to half the planet's gross income, and ten percent of the population to be used as slaves in the name of the New Republic. While on the planet, he secretly contacted Waric Nane, one of Danoor's Ministers. Nane's political views aligned with Sarne's, and Treidum believed he could use Nane as an ally against the FarStar. He revealed his true identity and the benefits of joining Moff Sarne's Empire. Nane, a proponent of a totalitarian regime, agreed to consider the offer. Treidum provided Nane with a trapezoid device to contact him in case of an emergency. Treidum requested that Nane activate the device and delay the New Republic if they arrived, allowing Treidum to return.

The Battle of Danoor

A week after Treidum left Danoor, the device activated, alerting him that the FarStar had arrived. The Lialic II, accompanied by an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, returned to the planet. Finding the FarStar in orbit, Treidum ordered his ships to attack. Despite being outmatched, starfighters from the Danoor Resistance joined the FarStar in defending the planet. During the battle, the Star Destroyer used a devastator torpedo, obliterating a ten kilometer area and forcing the Danoor Resistance fighters to disengage. However, the arrival of the Aing-Tii shifted the battle in the New Republic's favor. The FarStar had sent a message into the Kathol Rift on behalf of the Danoor Resistance, who were their allies. The Aing-Tii Sanhedrim ship rammed the Lialic II, destroying the corvette and killing all aboard, including Captain Treidum. With the battle down to the FarStar against the Star Destroyer, the FarStar's fighter complement struck the torpedo launcher, causing an explosion that destroyed the vessel. Despite his death, Treidum succeeded in delaying the FarStar, allowing Moff Sarne to prepare for their arrival.

Personality and traits

Treidum was regarded as a skilled and devoted Imperial officer who believed that the outcome justified the methods used. He could present a friendly demeanor when necessary to gain an advantage. Pragmatic and practical, Treidum used government factions to his advantage, such as siding with Minister Waric Nane of Danoor in exchange for delaying the New Republic vessel. Tactically competent, Treidum successfully engaged two Marauder-class corvettes with the Lialic II and commanded the Battle of Danoor despite the presence of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. In his early sixties at the time of his death in 8 ABY, his dark hair was just beginning to turn gray.

Skills and abilities

Treidum was trained in the use of blaster pistols and was skilled in melee combat, grenades, and missile weapons. He could pilot both capital ships and space transports, specializing in Corellian corvettes. He was also proficient with weapons on capital ships, particularly concussion missiles, and knowledgeable about their shield systems. Treidum could assist in repairing capital ships and their weapon systems and was trained in sensor systems and astrogation. He was familiar with Imperial law enforcement procedures and security systems and understood alien species, languages, cultures, bureaucracy, business, and planetary systems. Treidum could drive and repair repulsorlift vehicles and had some skill in programming and repairing computers and droids. He also had experience in demolitions and first aid.

Equipment

Treidum preferred an Imperial Munitions heavy blaster pistol as his personal weapon and carried a comlink and datapad. He typically wore an Imperial officer's uniform but had a New Republic uniform to deceive the inhabitants of the Kathol Outback.

Behind the scenes

Rolf Treidum was created by West End Games for the supplement The Kathol Outback for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Treidum was the primary Imperial antagonist for the FarStar crew in several adventures, appearing directly in the final scenario, Galaxy's Edge, where he met his end.
