Rame Cartroll

During the Clone Wars, a male Human named Rame Cartroll, holding the rank of Lieutenant, served as second-in-command aboard a CR90 corvette belonging to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Circa 20 BBY, the corvette under Cartroll's watch was subjected to bombardment by vessels from the Galactic Republic, the Confederacy's opposing faction. Subsequently, freelance agents aligned with the Republic apprehended Cartroll on the bridge of the crippled warship.

Biography

As a male Human, Rame Cartroll participated in the Clone Wars – a period of intense conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy Independent Systems – as part of the Confederacy's naval forces. He attained the rank of lieutenant and functioned as the second-in-command on a Separatist CR90 corvette. Around 20 BBY, Cartroll was stationed with the corvette in the Lambda sector's Ando system, where the vessel was the location of a Confederate diplomatic meeting. This meeting included the Human scoundrel Gura Tran, and the Tarasin Sheel, representatives of the Thaereian military armed force and the Wyrd witch coven respectively. Cartroll's understanding of the envoys' purpose was minimal, and he was unfamiliar with Sheel's species, describing her appearance as lizard-like.

Following the arrival of Republic forces in the Ando system, the Republic warships launched a bombardment against Cartroll's corvette, inflicting severe damage. Cartroll sustained injuries during this assault, becoming one of the mere three sentient beings aboard the ship to survive. Seeking refuge on the bridge of the crippled vessel, he secured the doors and activated an emergency battery power supply.

A team of freelance operatives, affiliated with the Republic task force, boarded the damaged CR90 corvette to gather intelligence and made their way toward the bridge. Initially, Cartroll denied the operatives access, keeping the door locked. However, after the agents guaranteed his fair treatment as a Republic prisoner, he yielded and opened the door to surrender. Shortly after, a Thaereian military Z-95 Headhunter starfighter attacked the corvette, acting on orders to eliminate any evidence of Gura Tran's meeting with the Confederates. Cartroll aided the freelance agents in resisting the attack, manning a turbolaser to fire upon the starfighter.

Personality and traits

Cartroll was a supporter of the Confederacy of Independent Systems' ideals, believing the Galactic Senate of the Republic to be corrupt. The Clone Wars left him both weary and disillusioned, but also strengthened his resolve. After his corvette was crippled in the Ando system, Cartroll was unhappy with the prospect of surrendering to the Republic, but uncertain of what to do to survive and keen to survive his predicament. He had experience with the operation of capital ship turbolasers.

Behind the scenes

Ronald A. Heintz conceived Rame Cartroll for Decision: Almas, a 2004 Star Wars Legends roleplaying module within the Decisions trilogy of RPGA's Living Force roleplaying campaign.

In Decision: Almas, players assume the roles of the freelance agents who encounter Cartroll aboard the damaged Confederate vessel, allowing for various interactions with him. Players can convince Cartroll to surrender by promising him good treatment as a prisoner of war. Alternatively, they can bypass the locked door, finding Cartroll behind a console with a blaster, prepared to fire. A firefight is possible, potentially leading to the officer's death, although the adventure encourages players to stun him instead. If captured, Cartroll can be questioned, potentially revealing the presence of the Thaereian and Wyrd envoys, and he may compare Sheel's appearance to any Tarasin player characters. If Cartroll is a willing prisoner, he may also operate the ship's turbolasers when the corvette is attacked by a Thaereian military starfighter.
