Gura Tran, a Human male, served the Believers Sith cult as a spy during the decline of the Galactic Republic. He worked his way into the Thaereian military, which constituted the armed forces of the Thaereian system. Around 20 BBY, he was chosen to represent the Thaereians in clandestine talks with the separatist Confederacy of Independent Systems. While traveling to the Core Worlds aboard a Separatist corvette, the ship was heavily attacked by a Republic strike force in the Ando system, leaving it disabled. Tran, having survived, then engaged a Republic boarding party that had been dispatched to investigate the ruined warship.
Born around 50 BBY, Gura Tran was a Human male who acted as a spy for the Believers Sith cult as the Galactic Republic neared its end. Tran was a member of a small Believer cell, and he only knew as much about the cult's plans as was necessary for his assignments. He successfully infiltrated the Thaereian military, the armed forces of the Thaereian system, and during the Clone Wars, the Thaereians selected him to be their official contact with the separatist Confederacy of Independent Systems. Around 20 BBY, Tran collaborated with Sheel, a Tarasin Force witch from the Wyrd coven, to concoct a scheme to discredit the Jedi—an order of Force users—and the government of the planet Cularin. The plan involved planting false evidence to suggest that both groups had been in contact with the Separatists. Tran, carrying flimsiplast documents and a datacard detailing the scheme in a magna-sealed compartment on his belt, boarded a Separatist corvette with Sheel to negotiate the plan's implementation with the Separatists. While on the vessel, Tran and Sheel remained isolated; few of the crew, including the second-in-command Lieutenant Rame Cartroll, knew why they were aboard, although the captain was better informed. On the way to the Core Worlds, the Separatist ship stopped in the Ando system so Tran could deliver crucial information to a Separatist base located on a planetoid within the star system.
Before Tran could reach the Separatist base, the corvette was attacked by a task force of the Galactic Republic, which crippled the ship. Tran was one of only three sentient beings to survive the attack. Around the time of the assault, he ingested a vial of a drug that provided immunity to Force-based mind influence. Fearing the warship would soon depressurize, Tran put on a padded flight suit for protection and sought refuge in a corridor leading to the corvette's bridge, accompanied by Solenoid, the Techno Union droid representative.
The heroes of Cularin, a group of independent agents from the Cularin system, boarded the damaged corvette to find survivors and gather intelligence. Recognizing them as allies of the Jedi, Tran ambushed the agents, intending to kill them and steal their starship to escape the ruined warship. Solenoid assisted Tran in the attack, with the Believer spy using the droid as cover while firing at the heroes of Cularin with his blaster pistol. However, Tran's attack failed, and he was defeated by the freelance agents.
In line with his role as a spy, Tran had a common appearance: average build, dark hair, and dark eyes. He was considered attractive, but not so much that he would be easily remembered. He was a devoted follower of the Believers and deeply hated the Jedi. Despite being a Believer spy, he also strongly supported the Thaereian military, believing that Cularin, a planet under their protection, would be better as a full Thaereian protectorate because he thought the Thaereians brought stability and fought crime.
Tran was trained to resist interrogation and possessed impressive combat skills. Stranded on the wrecked Separatist corvette, Tran desperately wanted to escape, but the conditions on board prevented him from using his combat skills effectively. He carried a vibroblade and a modified BlasTech DY-225 Heavy Blaster Pistol.
Gura Tran was a character in Decision: Almas, a roleplaying adventure by Ronald A. Heintz published by RPGA in 2004. Set in Star Wars Legends continuity, the adventure is the first part of the Decisions trilogy within the Living Force roleplaying campaign. In the adventure, players take on the roles of the heroes of Cularin and fight Tran on the damaged Separatist warship. Players can capture Tran, but he will refuse to give his captors any information. Tran can also be killed in the fight, and Republic forces may find documents on his body that reveal his plan to discredit the Jedi.
