In the year 0 ABY, a rebellion erupted on the Imperial EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Far Orbit. The starship was positioned within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy at the time. After months spent meticulously planning, a group of rebellious crew members, with Commander Dhas Fenoep Vedij at the helm, who was also the frigate's second-in-command, took control of the Far Orbit. They successfully overpowered Captain Vocis Kenit and his troopers, who were loyal to the Empire. Subsequently, under Vedij's command, the Far Orbit transitioned into a privateer frigate, fighting for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. This occurred shortly after the Imperial loyalists were forced off the ship via escape pods and the Far Orbit's shuttles.
During 0 ABY, a year marked by the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, the Imperial Navy's EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate, the Far Orbit, was led by Captain Vocis Kenit. Serving as his second-in-command was Commander Dhas Fenoep Vedij. The crew of the Far Orbit held a distinct dislike for Kenit, finding him to be an oppressive and rigid figure. He maintained order through the ship's security forces, which included a platoon of stormtroopers and another platoon of Imperial Navy troopers. Vedij, sharing the crew's sentiment, began to formulate a plan for mutiny after his brother, Elon Vedij, was assigned to the Far Orbit. This transfer led the brothers to suspect that the Empire intended to eliminate them both. This suspicion stemmed from the deaths of their parents just two days before Elon Vedij's transfer. Dhas Vedij believed this accident was orchestrated to silence their father, who had been a vocal critic of the Empire. Consequently, Vedij persisted in his planning and plotting for months.
Around this time, the Far Orbit was engaged in tracking a group of pirates known as the Silent Blades within the Outer Rim Territories for several weeks. They eventually managed to corner the pirates within an asteroid belt. Attempting to resolve the ensuing standoff, Kenit ordered the Far Orbit's complement of TIE Series starfighters to attack the pirates within the asteroid belt. This resulted in an Imperial victory, but at the cost of all Imperial pilots and their fighters, including Elon Vedij. Following his brother's death, Dhas Vedij garnered the crew's trust and support for the mutiny. He successfully convinced the majority of the Imperial Navy troopers to either assist in the mutiny or remain confined to their quarters. After news of the Empire's destruction of the planet Alderaan reached the Far Orbit, an Alderaanian shiphand was subjected to brutal treatment by Kenit's men on suspicion of treason. Vedij then spread a rumor that the shiphand was being targeted specifically for being Alderaanian, leveraging the resulting outrage and the crew's support to initiate the mutiny.
As the mutiny began, the Imperial stormtroopers were effectively isolated by security bulkheads, lured by a fabricated report of a riot. The Far Orbit's sole COMPNOR Observation officer was swiftly subdued. Following Vedij's announcement of the mutiny, approximately two-thirds of the entire crew rallied to his cause. Those who chose not to participate offered no resistance and were confined alongside the captured stormtroopers. The mutiny concluded with Vedij and his followers seizing control of the Far Orbit.

With the Far Orbit now under their control, Vedij, accompanied by some of his crew, personally escorted Kenit and seven of the Captain's devoted followers to the ship's escape pods at blasterpoint. Despite the threats Kenit hurled at Vedij, promising torture and severe punishment, Kenit and the seven were ejected from the ship in escape pods. Similarly, the remaining loyalists and stormtroopers under Kenit's command were expelled, either in escape pods or via some of the frigate's shuttles. Vedij then communicated to the crew, using the ship's comm unit, that Kenit had been removed from the ship, and that the Far Orbit would be setting course for the Core Worlds, deviating from the typical route of mutineers towards the Outer Rim. Imperial forces later recovered Kenit's escape pod, and he faced repercussions for his failure to maintain command of the Far Orbit.
Approximately half of the Far Orbit's remaining crew opted to abandon ship rather than remain on board, leaving the frigate with a minimal crew sufficient for operation under Vedij's leadership, who assumed the title of captain. Following the mutiny, the Far Orbit possessed enough supplies for six months and retained two functional shuttles. However, all escape pods were jettisoned to deter pursuit by the Imperials. The ship subsequently became a privateer frigate, operating in support of the Rebel Alliance. It seized a convoy of freighters, specifically Shipment 1037, marking the beginning of a successful period for the Far Orbit as a privateering vessel.
The mutiny was initially referenced in The Far Orbit Project from 1998, authored by Timothy S. O'Brien. This book served as a supplement to West End Games's Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, sharing the thematic focus of the earlier publication, Pirates & Privateers, by detailing the exploits of the privateering vessel Far Orbit. The mutiny serves as the narrative starting point for the playable campaign.
