Vocis Kenit
Vocis Kenit, a Human male, joined the Galactic Empire's Navy prior to 12 BBY. By 0 ABY, he had attained the rank of captain. This was largely because he frequently reported on the shortcomings of other officers. He was subsequently given command of the Far Orbit, an EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate. In 0 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, a mutiny occurred. Led by second officer Dhas Fenoep Vedij, a portion of the Far Orbit's crew seized the starship from Kenit and the loyalists. After the Far Orbit's crew released him, Kenit was briefly imprisoned for his failure. He was then tasked with tracking down the Far Orbit, which had become an Alliance privateering vessel. He nearly recaptured the ship by tricking them into attacking a pirate band and later forcing a confrontation with an Imperial fleet, but his efforts failed. He was ultimately executed by Emperor Palpatine himself for this failure.
Born in the Hallu sector of the Mid Rim, Vocis Kenit was a male Human. He had at least one sibling. During the Galactic Empire's Navy's initial major expansion, Kenit enlisted by 12 BBY. After two years of service, he attended the Imperial Naval Academy on Lianna. Graduating as an officer, Kenit was assigned to the Semqi Pefis, a Victory-class Star Destroyer. While serving on the ship, Kenit reported the political failings of several superior officers, bringing their careers into question. Upon completion of his tour on the Semqi Pefis, Kenit received a promotion and was transferred to the Thomquizzar Naval Base in the Outer Rim Territories.
As always, Kenit excelled, performing his duties with intelligence while simultaneously identifying the shortcomings of his Imperial superiors. He advanced through the ranks in a similar fashion, undermining the careers of superiors and rivals, and subsequently being rewarded with promotions and transfers. In fact, many superiors found that rewarding Kenit was the simplest and safest way to be rid of him. Eventually, Kenit was placed in command of the newly constructed EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Far Orbit, serving as its captain as he and the frigate eliminated pirate strongholds in the Outer Rim.

Kenit was a harsh captain to the Far Orbit's crew. His methods for enforcing discipline were severe, and his treatment of captured enemies was even more brutal. Many of the ship's personnel and officers, including Commander Dhas Fenoep Vedij, the second in command, disliked him. After one dissenting officer was reported to the Imperial Security Bureau, they mysteriously died.
Kenit's cunning and ability to anticipate enemy movements led to the downfall of three pirate lords and numerous smaller piratical organizations at the hands of the Far Orbit. For weeks, Kenit and the Far Orbit tracked a pirate organization known as the Silent Blades, ultimately forcing them into a standoff within an asteroid belt: the Far Orbit could not enter, and the pirates could not escape. Kenit, desiring personal glory, ignored Vedij's suggestion to request reinforcements. Instead, Kenit ordered the Far Orbit's TIE Series starfighter complement to attack the pirates in the asteroid field. The assault was successful, destroying the majority of the pirates, but the entire TIE force, including Vedij's brother, Elon, was lost.
Vedij, disillusioned with the Empire and grieving the death of his brother, led a mutiny against Kenit and the loyal Imperials. This occurred after Kenit's men arrested a shiphand simply for being from Alderaan, a world sympathetic to the Alliance before its destruction by the Empire's DS-1 Orbital Battle Station superweapon. Vedij used the arrest rumors to incite the crew, and two-thirds of Kenit's command joined the mutiny, removing Kenit from power. Vedij personally sent the Captain off the ship in an escape pod, along with crew members who opposed the mutiny. The Imperials later recovered Kenit, who reported the events and was subsequently imprisoned to await punishment. His political adversaries, whom Kenit had slighted over the years, arranged a court-martial for his failure in command.

Weeks later, Grand Vizier Sate Pestage, a close associate of Emperor Palpatine, sentenced Kenit via hologram. Pestage, leading the investigation due to the Emperor's anger over the mutiny, gave Kenit a suspended death sentence. The execution was contingent on Kenit's success in capturing the Far Orbit. Failure meant death, while success meant survival. Kenit accepted the mission and, using the Imperial frigate Stalwart, began searching for Vedij and the Far Orbit in the Outer Rim. He also placed bounties on the heads of his former crew.
During his search, Pestage contacted Kenit, informing him that the Far Orbit had moved to the Core Worlds' Ringali Shell. There, Vedij and the crew, now serving as privateers for the Alliance to Restore the Republic in the Galactic Civil War, had captured Imperial Advisor Coh Veshiv near Esseles.
Kenit, authorized to use extreme measures, devised a plan to discredit the Far Orbit and turn public opinion against it by portraying it as a piratical vessel. In the Ringali Shell, Kenit forced Venslas Beeli and his Solar Terrors, a captured pirate band, to attack civilian targets near Brentaal IV, Rhinnal, and Esseles while posing as Alliance privateers. After their raids, Beeli's fleet retreated to a deep-space position where Kenit and the Stalwart were waiting. Imperial patrols were deliberately restrained to allow the Far Orbit to engage the pirates, as Vedij and his crew wished to maintain their reputation by destroying them. Ultimately, Vedij and the Far Orbit did destroy the pirates.

Kenit then set a trap for the Far Orbit. Using the seemingly defenseless Mark III bulk transport SPF 14897 as bait, he lured in the Far Orbit. The privateer crew raided the transport, only to find the cargo hold filled with three squads of elite stormtroopers who attempted a counter-boarding operation. As the Far Orbit fought off the boarders, Kenit led a small fleet to capture the vessel. He hailed the Far Orbit, demanding their surrender for treason and promising leniency to the crew if Vedij was handed over.
Kenit's fleet, consisting of two GAT-12 Skipray Blastboats, the Strike-class medium cruiser Hammer, the Immobilizer 418 cruiser Claw, and the Stalwart, attacked the Far Orbit. Capital ships bombarded the Far Orbit with ion cannon fire while launching TIE fighters. The Stalwart, lacking ion cannons, used its tractor beams to hold the Far Orbit in place. Despite the odds, the Far Orbit's crew prevailed, using their own tractor beams to grab passing TIEs and use them as shields against the Skiprays. The Far Orbit then targeted the Claw, whose gravity well projectors were preventing a hyperspace jump, and destroyed one of the projectors. With the Far Orbit now free to jump, the heavily damaged ship escaped, ruining Kenit's mission.
Later that year, the Far Orbit, while evading Kenit, captured the Emperor's Will, a Star Galleon-class frigate laden with treasure. Among the riches was a single Corusca gem with unique tracking abilities. Kenit, aware of the gem's properties due to his brother being a gemologist, was confident he could finally capture the frigate. However, he was summoned to the holopod and confronted by Palpatine himself, not Pestage, who was furious at the loss of the Emperor's Will. Palpatine immediately executed Kenit via Force choking from across the galaxy for his failure, taking the secret of tracking the ship with him.
Kenit was a fair-skinned man with black hair and a moustache. While a decent tactician capable of anticipating enemy movements, he was not particularly brilliant in military operations. His rise through the ranks was due more to his political skills than his military prowess. At each post, he intelligently completed his missions while identifying and exploiting the political faults of his superiors, creating numerous enemies within the Imperial ranks. His cunning, technical excellence, and unwavering devotion to the New Order facilitated his advancement. As commander of the Far Orbit, he was an authoritarian and petty tyrant, causing widespread dislike among the crew. He treated captured prisoners even worse than his own men.
Kenit's treatment of his crew and his pursuit of glory during the battle with the Silent Blades led to the mutiny, an event he never anticipated. He viewed Vedij as a traitor. He feared failing his superiors in the search for the Far Orbit, knowing the consequence was death. During the attempt to capture the Far Orbit with his fleet, he kept the Stalwart out of the immediate fighting to avoid personal risk.
Vocis Kenit was first mentioned in The Far Orbit Project, published in 1998 by Timothy S. O'Brien. This supplement to West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game served as a sequel to Pirates & Privateers, continuing its theme by detailing the Far Orbit's adventures. In The Far Orbit Project, Vocis Kenit is the main antagonist, attempting to capture the privateering vessel. He appears in the adventure scenarios The Capture of Coh Veshiv, The Rival, and The Trap, all included in the book. Kenit was also mentioned in the 2008 reference work The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia in its entries for the Strike Cruiser Hammer and Shel Marcino, a survivor of the Silent Blades.
In The Far Orbit Project, Kenit's attempts to capture the Far Orbit can vary significantly based on the actions of the players and the gamemaster. The pirates used to discredit the frigate can serve as bait, allowing Kenit's fleet to intercept the EF76 instead of using SPF 14897. During the battle between the fleet and Vedij's force, Vedij can surrender in exchange for safe passage for his men. However, Kenit intends to double-cross Vedij and capture the ship, though the Far Orbit escapes as Vedij boards the Stalwart. This article presents the scenario where the players successfully navigate the challenges, resulting in the best outcome for the Far Orbit's privateers and aligning all adventure scenarios within Legends continuity.
