The initial article detailed the mechanics of news dissemination within the Star Wars universe and offered guidance on integrating news reports into role-playing scenarios. Subsequent Galaxywide NewsNet features exclusively comprised news reports, omitting any game-related analysis. These news reports commence concurrently with the events portrayed in A New Hope and advance chronologically by several months with each consecutive issue of the Journal. Furthermore, other products from West End Games, for instance The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook, also incorporated in-universe news reports.

Each news article contains a line of code that indicates where it came from. As an example, the article "Jatz Musician Roi Debuts New Slug" has the code [37:8:14/GLR/J25L/GRC.4.ARC/ENT/T. Marelle]. The date is the first section, formatted as year:month:day, with the year starting from zero at the Great ReSynchronization. In this instance, it is day 14 of the eighth month of year 37 after the ReSynchronization. The newsfeed is indicated by the second section of the code. In this example, GLR stands for Galactic Resorts. The next part, J25L, contains information that is not yet fully understood. The location of the feed's origin is next, including the system, the planet's numerical position within the system, and the city on that planet. Consequently, GRC.4.ARC indicates that the article originated in Arcopola, a city located on the fourth planet of the Greccia system. The general subject of the article is next; in this case, "ENT" stands for entertainment. Other departments include "GEN" for general news, "MIL" for military news, "ECO" for economic news, "TRD" for trade news, and "POL" for political news.
