The year 44 BBY saw the inaugural democratic selection of a Governor for Gala, marking a significant shift. Before this time, the Beju-Tallah dynasty held dominion over Gala. To combat widespread corruption and quell popular discontent, Queen Veda opted to transform the planet into a democratic state.
Three individuals vied for the position. Deca Brun garnered considerable backing, largely due to his commitments to reform and economic advancement. Prince Beju, Queen Veda's son, also entered the race for governorship. He asserted his inherent entitlement to rule as the legitimate successor to the throne, rejecting the very notion of an election. Wila Prammi, previously an underminister, was the third contender.
Leading up to the election, Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi uncovered substantial campaign funding received by Deca Brun from the Offworld Mining Corporation. In exchange, Offworld was promised extensive mining concessions, which would have resulted in significant harm to the environment. Concurrently, Beju discovered that he was not the rightful heir to the Galacian throne; his older half-sister, Elan, who led the hill people, was the true successor. Beju subsequently withdrew his candidacy and endorsed Prammi. He also revealed Deca Brun's dishonest agreement to the voters. Consequently, Wila Prammi secured a landslide victory, becoming Gala's first governor.
