Star Wars 16, published by Marvel Comics on July 25, 1978, represents the sixteenth installment of the comic book series Star Wars within the Legends continuity. Written by Archie Goodwin and featuring artwork by guest artists Walt Simonson and Bob Wiacek, it presents the tale "The Hunter!," which serves as the introduction of bounty hunter Beilert Valance as he attempts to locate Luke Skywalker.
Beilert Valance, a bounty hunter notorious for his hatred of droids, spearheads an assault with his mercenary group on Anglebay Station situated on Telos IV. Upon arriving, they encounter Don-Wan Kihotay, who shares the story of his experiences with the Star-Hoppers of Aduba-3. The mercenaries incorrectly identify the Star-Hoppers as the Rebels responsible for the destruction of the Death Star, specifically mistaking the young farm boy Jimm Doshun for Luke Skywalker. Motivated by the substantial reward offered for the capture of the individual who obliterated the Empire's ultimate weapon, and fueled by his personal animosity towards those who favor droids, Valance immediately embarks on a mission to apprehend the boy. Jaxxon and Amaiza Foxtrain, upon learning of Valance's intentions, travel to Aduba-3 to warn Jimm about the approaching bounty hunters. When Valance's gang arrives, a battle breaks out, resulting in the death of most of its members during their struggle against the three Star-Hoppers. It is only at this point that Valance, the sole survivor of his team, realizes his error in targeting the wrong individual. He manages to escape by utilizing the blaster integrated into his cybernetic arm, catching his opponents off guard and fleeing the planet aboard his ship, the Kill Switch.
