Around 0 ABY, Lasre Dardano, an Imperial Moff, launched an attack on Whisper Base with his Imperial forces. The Alliance to Restore the Republic had recently captured this base.
Upon learning that his listening post had been lost, Dardano dispatched a number of his troops to retake the base. If they were unsuccessful in regaining control, their mission would change to destroying Whisper Base. Because the base was originally constructed to monitor an Imperial rival, he could only commit a limited number of his forces to the battle to protect operational secrecy.
The Rebel forces, now in command of the Imperial outpost known as Whisper Base, journeyed to the oppressed village of Darrastead on the planet Onderon to enlist new recruits for their cause. After negotiating with Deil Kadru, the village's elder, the Rebels successfully persuaded the local villagers to assist in maintaining the base and operating its Signal Intelligence array.
Subsequently, the Rebel unit traveled through the jungle territory of the Beast Riders. Within a short half-hour, a warrior patrol of the Clazca tribe, riding ruping mounts, intercepted the group. Deeming them intruders, the warriors demanded an explanation or ordered them to leave. The Rebels piqued the warriors' interest and, following a brief discussion, established the groundwork for future collaboration. The Clazca provided directions to a hunting lodge and instructed the group to avoid Beast Rider territory and meet at the lodge in one week.
The party later found their way to the lodge, where they were greeted in a boisterous manner by dozens of Beast Riders who were drinking, arguing, and milling about. There, the Rebels officially proposed an alliance to the Clazca, securing a commitment of ongoing support for their efforts against the Empire.
The battle for Whisper Base was initially featured in the role-playing game module titled Operation: Shadowpoint. The adventure's events are structured in a modular way, allowing them to be presented in various sequences. This article assumes the events of Operation: Shadowpoint are successfully completed in the order outlined in the supplement.
