The base's construction served the purpose of intelligence gathering on Admiral Corlen, a political adversary of Dardano's who commanded the garrison located in Iziz. To achieve this, the base possessed a sophisticated signal intelligence system, enabling the monitoring of Imperial operations within the system. Due to this capability, combined with the Imperial codes stored at the base, the Rebel Alliance identified it as a high-value target and dispatched an infiltration team with the mission of seizing the listening post.
