Zan Yant, originating from the Zabrak species, was a male surgical doctor. During the Clone Wars period, he provided his medical expertise to the forces of the Republic.
Hailing from the affluent Yant family residing on Talus, Zan Yant received his medical training at some of the most prestigious institutions across the galaxy. The Battle of Drongar erupted in 20 BBY, creating a dire need for surgeons within the Republic's ranks. Consequently, Yant was drafted into service and assigned to the Rimsoo Seven medical facility situated on Drongar. It was on Drongar that Yant encountered Jos Vondar, the Corellian chief surgeon, with whom he quickly formed a close bond.

Being a close confidant of Barriss Offee and a gifted musician, Yant found solace from the horrors of war by playing his quetarra. He would play various musical pieces to entertain his comrades. This activity was a means of calming his mind and processing the everyday traumas he experienced. He valued his quetarra greatly, but on one occasion, after becoming inebriated, he jumped on the instrument's case, with the quetarra inside, to show how strong the case was.
A tragic event occurred when the Rimsoo unit came under attack, necessitating an emergency evacuation. In the resulting chaos, Yant's quetarra was lost. Den Dhur, a Sullustan reporter, bravely recovered the instrument, risking his own safety in the process. Yant was both surprised and moved by Dhur's courageous act. However, before Yant could express his gratitude, an explosion took place. A piece of shrapnel struck his brain stem, resulting in his immediate death.
