Yarna d'al' Gargan, hailing from the planet of Askaji, was a female Askajian whose father held the position of tribal chief. Enslavers seized her and transported her to Tatooine, a desert planet, where Jabba Desilijic Tiure, a Hutt crime lord, purchased her. As a slave, she was compelled to work as a dancing girl at his palace. She witnessed the execution of a young Twi'lek named Oola, with whom she worked, and the arrival of Luke Skywalker at the palace. Following Jabba's death, she managed to escape and rescue her kidnapped cublings from his townhouse.
Originating from Askaji, a planet situated in the Outer Rim Territories, Yarna d'al' Gargan was a female Askajian characterized by dark brown hair. Her people, organized into tribes under the leadership of chiefs, included her parent, and she would perform dances in honor of her tribe. She was married to Nautag and had four cublings. However, one day, she and her family were captured by enslavers and taken to the desert planet Tatooine, where the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure bought them. When Nautag attempted to resist, the Hutt fed him to his pet rancor, Pateesa, and Yarna's cublings were sent to Jabba's townhouse in Mos Eisley.

At his palace in the Dune Sea, Jabba maintained a large number of enslaved dancers. Yarna became one of these dancers, and despite her hatred for the Hutt, she developed relationships with some of the palace regulars and learned to avoid Jabba's anger. Jabba considered her his favorite performer and had a peculiar habit of making her wear makeup to resemble his mother, and her larger size was intended to mimic that of a Hutt. Her dances, characterized by their slowness and deliberateness, contrasted with those of Oola, a young Twi'lek, with whom she frequently performed duets in front of Jabba's throne. She served as Jabba's dancer for a considerable period.
In 4 ABY, Yarna was engaged in conversation with another courtier in one of the booths of Jabba's throne room, holding a drink, when Bib Fortuna, Jabba's majordomo, and two Gamorrean guards escorted the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 into the room. Subsequently, R2-D2 played a holographic message for Jabba from Luke Skywalker, a Jedi and the master of the two droids. In the message, the Jedi sought to negotiate with Jabba for the release of Han Solo, a friend of Skywalker's who was being held prisoner in carbonite. After the message concluded with Skywalker gifting the droids to Jabba, the Hutt stated that he was not interested in negotiating for Solo, and the droids were taken away.

After the droids were put to work, the Max Rebo Band performed the song "Jedi Rocks" for Jabba. Yarna and Oola danced in the center of the throne room, in front of Jabba's throne, during the performance. When the song finished, Jabba demanded a repeat performance, and the band complied, with both the Askajian and the Twi'lek continuing to dance. During the second performance, Jabba attempted to pull Oola closer while Yarna continued dancing, but when the Twi'lek resisted, Jabba interrupted the song by dropping her through a trap door into a pit beneath the throne room. Having stopped dancing, Yarna joined other courtiers in gathering around a grating in the throne room floor to helplessly watch as the screaming Oola was devoured by Pateesa. The Askajian clutched her belly while laughing at her fellow dancer's fate as others present cheered.

As the commotion subsided following Oola's death, the court's attention was drawn to the throne room's entry way by the sound of blaster fire. The source of the noise was revealed to be Princess Leia Organa, who entered the throne room disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh and dragged the Wookiee Chewbacca before Jabba's throne where Yarna had previously been dancing. Organa demanded double the bounty Jabba had placed on the Wookiee and threatened the room with an active thermal detonator, causing the court to cower in terror. Jabba merely laughed and gave an increased, but not doubled, counter offer, which satisfied the disguised Organa. With the detonator deactivated, Chewbacca was taken away and the band began playing music again.
Later that night, Yarna was sleeping beside the Quarren Tessek in one of the booths of the throne room when Organa snuck back. She passed the sleeping dancer in order to reach her true objective in the palace: the smuggler Han Solo, who was frozen in carbonite and displayed on Jabba's wall. After she freed Solo, Jabba, who had been lying in wait with many other members of his court, sprung a trap on Organa and captured both her and Solo. After the pair's capture, the court celebrated late into the night.

The following morning, Jabba and his court were dozing after their late-night revelry. Yarna was resting again in one of the throne room booths with her head on Tessek's shoulder when Luke Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, arrived in the throne room. Yarna awoke just before Jabba's majordomo, Bib Fortuna, having been mind tricked by the Jedi, woke the Hutt as the Jedi demanded that Jabba free Solo and Chewbacca. Yarna and Tessek stood together among other court members as Jabba refused Skywalker's demands, prompting the Jedi to threaten the Hutt with a blaster pistol. The Hutt then dropped Skywalker, and the unlucky Gamorrean guard Jubnuk, into the rancor pit.
Once again, the court gathered to witness the execution, but unlike Oola, Skywalker killed the rancor after it devoured Jubnuk. Enraged, Jabba ordered that Skywalker, Solo, and Chewbacca be brought before him. Still standing with Tessek, Yarna watched as the Hutt sentenced all three to be executed at the Great Pit of Carkoon, and then the pair joined the crowd of courtiers that followed the prisoners as they were marched from the throne room. Jabba and much of his court then traveled to the Great Pit of Carkoon aboard the sail barge Khetanna, but at the pit Skywalker and his allies fought back against their captors. Organa ultimately killed the Hutt before destroying the sail barge, killing many of Jabba's followers. Thanks to Organa's actions, Yarna escaped Jabba's palace and was reunited with her cublings.
Due to Jabba's demands regarding her appearance, the 1.5 meter tall Yarna had a large build with a prominent six-breasted chest. In addition to being slower and more deliberate in her dancing compared to Oola, the Askajian improvised her performances to be more humorous than the Twi'lek's graceful and dainty choreography.

Claire Davenport played Yarna d'al' Gargan in the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, part of the original trilogy. Director Richard Marquand selected her after directing her in Birth of the Beatles, a 1979 biopic about The Beatles, where Davenport portrayed a nude model. Marquand stated, "I selected the fat lady, because I think fat ladies are wonderful." He initially conceived the character as a daughter of Jabba the Hutt.
Concept art for the character was created in 1981. Nilo Rodis-Jamero, the costume designer for Return of the Jedi, mentioned that the decision to give Yarna d'al' Gargan six breasts was made during a conversation while under the influence of alcohol. Her costume incorporated a foam latex prosthetic on her stomach, which was created by Industrial Light & Magic and sent to London for filming.
During the production of Return of the Jedi, the character was not referred to as Yarna d'al' Gargan. In 2006, Leland Chee, the keeper of the Holocron continuity database, identified a production name "Weeba Weeba" as being assigned to a human rancor keeper. However, research conducted by Pablo Hidalgo for a StarWars.com blog post in 2013 revealed that during the production of Return of the Jedi, Davenport's character was known as Wiebba-Wiebba.
After the film's release, Kenner Products began designing an action figure of Yarna for the toy line Star Wars: The Power of the Force. Lucasfilm halted production at the intermediate prototype stage, apparently deeming the six-breasted dancer unsuitable for a children's toy. Her first action figure was released in 2008 as part of Hasbro's Star Wars: The Legacy Collection.
The 2021 poetic adaptation of Return of the Jedi, The Odyssey of Star Wars: An Epic Poem, by Jack Mitchell portrays Yarna leading a dance while the Max Rebo Band performs when Luke Skywalker arrives at the palace, a departure from the film's depiction of her sleeping.
