Vernol

The Vernols were a race of sentient bipeds. A large colony of them resided on Garnib.

Biology and appearance

Despite having an appearance that suggested amphibian origins, Vernols actually descended from mammalian ancestors. They had short, stout bodies with broad faces. Their features included small eyes, wide mouths, and tiny, widely spaced ears. Each hand had four stubby fingers.

Vernols had blue skin, accented with orange markings around their eyes and mouths, as well as on their palms and the bottoms of their feet.

Society and Culture

Although much of Vernol society was destroyed by two disasters on their homeworld, they strived to rebuild their culture on other galactic planets. Garnib, a frigid world, was the most significant of these, hosting the largest population of ethnic Vernols. Following the devastation of their original world and culture, most Vernols developed an anxious disposition and a jumpy attitude. Many relocated to Garnib, viewing it as a secure and stable environment. The native Balinaka inspired some fear in the Vernols, but they were very welcoming to their new neighbors.

Vernols possessed an inherent talent for foraging, demonstrating exceptional skill in locating food, water, or other vital resources in any circumstance. Despite their somewhat fearful and territorial nature, Vernols integrated into numerous societies throughout the galaxy. Leveraging their foraging skills, some became investigators, while others capitalized on their pleasant personalities and innocent looks to become successful con artists, deceiving their targets into a false sense of security. Beyond these two professions, Vernols occupied a wide array of roles on various planets, such as the merchant, Shulf'aa, who resided on the planet Coruscant.

History

The Vernol homeworld experienced two major catastrophes within a fifty-year period. First, a meteor struck their planet, decimating a substantial portion of their society. Subsequently, their world's orbit around its star shifted, rapidly rendering it uninhabitable. The Vernols abandoned their homeworld and ventured into space, seeking to establish colonies on safer planets.

While Vernols could be encountered on numerous worlds across the galaxy, it was on Garnib that they established a new home for their species. Although they found the native Balinaka intimidating, they were accepted and welcomed by the larger species.
