Unidentified Sheathipede-class transport shuttle (Grievous)

During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems' naval forces included a Sheathipede-class transport shuttle. This vessel functioned as the personal shuttle for General Grievous, the Kaleesh Separatist leader. The Confederate government presented him with the craft to acknowledge his important status. In 19 BBY, during the closing days of the conflict, Grievous journeyed to the planet Utapau aboard his Sheathipede-class transport shuttle.

Description

The vessel, a Sheathipede-class transport shuttle, had a length of 14.4 meters. Twin engine units at the rear provided propulsion. As the personal shuttle of General Grievous of the Kaleesh Separatist Alliance, its cockpit was operated by two OOM pilot battle droids. This differed from the automated systems found in Sheathipede-class ships used by Neimoidians. The shuttle also featured front-mounted lights and a rear blast door providing access to the main cabin via a retractable ramp.

History

The shuttle lands on the planet Utapau.

Sometime during the time of the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Confederacy acknowledged Grievous' high rank by gifting him a personal Sheathipede-class transport shuttle. Grievous held the title of Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Army. In 19 BBY, following the failed assault on the Republic capital world of Coruscant, which resulted in Count Dooku's death and Grievous's subsequent rise to Head of State, the Kaleesh leader traveled to Utapau. He sought refuge in the Outer Rim Territories, taking refuge aboard a Separatist stronghold located on the tenth level of Pau City.

Commanders and crew

During the Clone Wars, the Sheathipede-class transport shuttle belonged to Kaleesh Separatist General Grievous as his personal transport, a gift recognizing his high position within the Separatist Alliance. Instead of the automated piloting systems found in Neimoidian Sheathipede-class vessels, Grievous opted for a crew of two OOM pilot battle droids to pilot the shuttle.

Behind the scenes

The 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, part of the prequel trilogy, marked the debut of Grievous's Sheathipede-class transport shuttle.
