Troop line

A troop line represented a specific type of formation within the Imperial Navy, and it was under the command of a captain of the line. These troop lines usually consisted of a pair of Evakmar-KDY transports along with two escort vessels, which were most often Strike-class medium cruisers. Given their purpose of transporting Imperial Army units, the composition of a troop line tended to be more consistent when compared to other naval lines. While a single transport was built to accommodate a full corps, it was common for them to carry fewer troops, as smaller detachments from the corps were often assigned to other ships. It was not uncommon for army officers to level accusations against captains of the line, claiming they prioritized the safety of their vessels over the well-being of the troops being transported. This tension sometimes led to situations where an admiral would take command of crucial surface operations. Other transport vessels were also utilized, with many dating back to the era of the Galactic Republic, such as the Delta-class troop transport.

History

During the invasion of the Kalinda system, the 6783rd Troop Line worked in conjunction with both the 2391st Battle Squadron and the 1249th Mobile Corps.
