Thrawn of the Chiss Ascendancy, a Senior Captain named Mitth'raw'nuruodo, utilized a uniquely modified freighter during his campaign against General Yiv and the forces of the Nikardun Destiny. This vessel boasted a customized nose and a Galactic Republic energy shield that Thrawn had acquired from Mokivj.
After dispatching Che'ri, the sky-walker, and Mitth'ali'astov, the caregiver, to Primea, the Vak homeworld, using a Vak fighter he had previously borrowed, along with a message for the Vak Combine concerning Yiv, Vaks loyal to the Nikardun leader abducted the two Chiss. Yiv then issued a threat to the Chiss Ascendancy, demanding that Thrawn arrive on Primea with an unarmed freighter as a ransom. Thrawn, aided by Qilori, a Pathfinder navigator secretly working for Yiv, journeyed to Primea. Qilori altered their arrival coordinates, placing them further out in the Primea system, where Yiv lay in wait with four Nikardun Battle Dreadnoughts, including his flagship, the Deathless.
As Thrawn faced Yiv, a Chiss fleet under the command of Admiral Ar'alani attacked the Nikardun ships near Primea, prompting Yiv's dreadnought escorts to engage. When Yiv threatened the lives of the Chiss hostages, Thrawn allowed the Deathless's tractor beam to pull his freighter toward the flagship. The two Chiss aboard the Deathless then released tava mist into the bridge, disabling the Nikardun crew. Thrawn then broke free from the tractor beam, maneuvering the freighter to ram directly into the flagship's viewport. The Republic shield deflected the Deathless's spectrum lasers, and the freighter's customized nose fit perfectly into the opening created in the viewport. Thrawn then successfully rescued the two Chiss, captured Yiv, and disengaged the freighter from the Deathless.
Thrawn's freighter was first seen in the 2020 book Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, penned by Timothy Zahn.
