Grendel, the Slug of Space is a well-known piece by the celebrated author Rogar Farnoster, brought to the public by TriPlanetary Press sometime following the Battle of Geonosis. The story unfolds through the eyes of Sosakar, a member of the crew aboard the Darkfire, which is captained by Flandon Sweeg, as they chase the massive space slug named Grendel within the perilous Borkeen Belt.
To prepare for writing the novel, Farnoster accompanied Professor Sedan Anang along with other scientists from the University of Sanbra during their investigation of an unusually large, 80-meter space slug that was found in the Borkeen Belt shortly before the Clone Wars began.
It's possible that the book drew inspiration from earlier tales of enormous slugs, including one recounted by Jedi Master Ares Nune while he was in pursuit of a mysterious Separatist superweapon.
This literary work shares notable resemblances to the 1851 novel titled Moby Dick, penned by Herman Melville. These similarities encompass elements such as the structure of the initial sentence and the account of the protagonist, who enlists as a member of a crew on a mission spearheaded by a captain with questionable ethics, all in pursuit of a gigantic, limbless, ship-destroying creature that is colored white.
