The Coil (Obus VI)

The Coil was the designation for a clandestine installation established by the Shroud on the Wild Space moonlet Obus VI.

History

Anchor base being flooded

The Shroud also considered monikers such as "The Eye", "Fire-Sea-Moonbase Alpha", "Secret Lair II", "The Shroudcave", "The Shroud of Death" and "Galactic Post Packaging Center". After the Eternal Empire conquest, the Shroud relocated his operational headquarters to Obus VI in order to observe Zakuul and manipulate the political landscape of Wild Space.

The Coil was comprised of three interconnected zones: a asteroid in orbit hosted low-level operations, linked via a Skyhook to "the Hub," an underwater biome level, which in turn connected to the subterranean volcano lair, the site of the most dangerous missions. Base personnel were forbidden from traveling between levels, or even from interacting with staff from other levels. The entirety of the moonlet, along with the orbiting asteroid, was shielded by the most potent scrambling field that credits could procure. This field effectively blocked all unauthorized communications, rendering the entire moonlet undetectable.

The Coil is blown apart.

In the year 3630 BBY, the Shroud resolved to take action against the burgeoning Anti-Zakuul Alliance headquartered on Odessen. He abducted the droid HK-55 and extracted his memory core, thereby gaining complete access to the Alliance base. However, when Z0-0M initiated an electrical surge to erase his short-term memory, it instead obliterated her own, leaving the former criminal mastermind without any memory of her identity. After reactivating, HK-55 adopted the reborn Z0-0M and proceeded to dismantle the base, eliminating the Shroud's droids and mercenaries throughout the facility. He annihilated X-TR0 in the museum, captured Jollo as a prisoner, and liberated Exarch Malforia from her cell before utilizing the turbolift to reach the asteroid level. The Exarch perished in the vacuum of space, which HK-55 and Z0-0M crossed on foot. Ultimately, they confronted and destroyed a duplicate of HK-55, which triggered the self-destruction sequence. The two droids escaped aboard a shuttle, resulting in the destruction of the asteroid level and the flooding of the sublevels.

Following HK-55's return to the Alliance base and his debriefing of the leadership regarding the events that had unfolded, Bey'wan Aygo dispatched personnel to assess whether the remaining portions of the base could be repurposed for the Alliance's use. They rescued Jollo from the volcano level, who then expressed his desire to purchase the Coil for his own purposes.
