Tanya Madera served as an Imperial agent, secretly joining the Rebel Alliance. She rose to the rank of Major and became second-in-command at Reginard Base. Her duties encompassed the base's routine operations, including managing supplies, personnel matters, and scheduling. Despite her true allegiance, she maintained a courteous and efficient demeanor, her neat uniform and shoulder-length brown hair concealing her true identity. The Galactic Empire tasked her with infiltrating a Rebel base and discreetly informing the Imperial Navy of its whereabouts. To achieve this objective, she concealed a transmitter within the passive sensor array, designed to emit a Stellar Class (Class B) starport beacon. However, Senior Technician Adonar Dellox discovered the beacon while working on the sensor array, leading Madera to murder him. She administered the lethal triflexia virus via her needler pistol.

After swiftly departing the scene, she later appeared alongside the base's commander, General Halomar Corros, falsely claiming to have been alone in her quarters when a group of Rebels investigated the death. Subsequently, she visited an X-wing pilot in the medical bay, infecting him with the triflexia virus to create the illusion of an outbreak. Following this, she approached the Rebels repairing the active sensor array and provided some details of their findings. While truthfully stating that the sub-space transmitters were used to transmit sensor data back to the base, she fabricated a story about the Imperial-marked parts, claiming they were salvaged from downed Imperial vessels or stolen from nationalized corporations. Ultimately, she confessed the truth about the sizable charge of detonate, explaining it served as a safety measure to prevent the array from falling into Imperial hands.
When the group, in coordination with General Corros, planned to relocate the sensor array to the opposite side of the planet, she arranged to accompany them for supervision. However, upon the arrival of Hawker Bryce-Kelly's ship, Queen's Victory, near the sensor array, Corros dispatched Madera and the group to investigate the reason for their direct approach to the sensor. The group landed near the sensor array, and, at Madera's suggestion, they approached the ship on foot, dividing into smaller groups. Despite the ship having only three glow rods, Madera took one, leaving the group with just two. When the group confronted Bryce-Kelly, he explained that he had simply followed a starport beacon and pointed towards the sensor array when asked for its location.
During this encounter, Madera discreetly separated from the group and concealed herself in the forest between them and the sensor array. As they moved to disable the beacon, Madera launched an attack. Initially employing her needler pistol, she quickly depleted its five poisoned needles and transitioned to her blaster pistol. Ultimately, the group managed to subdue her, resulting in her death, and reversed her modifications to the sensor array.
