The Star Wars Legends anthology titled Tales from the New Republic was compiled by Peter Schweighofer together with Craig Carey, and edited by both. Included within are eleven short stories, some of which were previously featured in the Star Wars Adventure Journal. Bantam Spectra initially released it as a paperback in December of 1999.
These stories, penned by some of today's most prominent science fiction authors, plunge readers into a harsh reality governed by cunning, force, and raw power—where only the most courageous, reckless, and lethal individuals dare to venture. In this war-torn universe's obscure corners, mercenaries and smugglers, gangsters and warriors, engage in fierce combat, sometimes cooperating, often betraying each other....
On Zelos II, a man and a woman find themselves imprisoned in a dim cell, each struggling to survive under the control of Imperial captors—and seeking an escape that could demand the ultimate sacrifice from one of them. On Ryloth's ravaged surface, Fenig Nabon awaits the arrival of a ship carrying female warriors to finalize a perilous transaction: the clandestine transportation of a group of dancers to the Hutt homeworld—only to encounter unexpected complications. Moreover, in a brand-new novella crafted specifically for this collection by Hugo Award–winning and New York Times bestselling authors Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole, Senator Garm Bel Iblis, presumed dead at the hand of an Imperial assassin, joins forces with Hal Horn in a confrontation against the Empire's most formidable operative. At stake are the blueprints for a terrifying superweapon known as the Death Star—along with the destinies of both the Empire and the New Republic.
