The Starbreaker 12 was a starship under the ownership of the Daragon family during the era preceding the Great Hyperspace War. Initially, the vessel belonged to the married starship operators Hok and Timar Daragon, serving as a secondary craft to their primary ship, the Shadow Runner. Following their demise, the ship was passed down to their offspring, Gav and Jori Daragon. Subsequently, the Daragon siblings embarked on careers as hyperspace explorers, albeit with limited success. After a particular voyage, the Starbreaker 12 was seized by Aarrba, the proprietor of a local repair dock, as security for unpaid repair expenses incurred by the Daragons. In a desperate attempt to evade assassins dispatched to eliminate them after the destruction of one of merchant lord Ssk Kahorr's ships, the Zeta Five, along one of the routes charted by the Daragons, Gav and Jori Daragon were compelled to abscond with the Starbreaker 12 from Aarrba's Repair Dock, executing a hyperspace jump into uncharted space to outrun their pursuers.
The hyperspace jump ultimately transported the Starbreaker 12 and its crew to the domain of the Sith Empire. Upon landing on the planet Korriban amidst the funeral proceedings for Dark Lord of the Sith Marka Ragnos in the Valley of the Dark Lords, Gav and Jori Daragon were apprehended, and the Starbreaker 12 was impounded within the Sith Citadel located on the world of Ziost. However, it wasn't long before the cunning Sith Lord Naga Sadow orchestrated an assault and liberated Gav and Jori Daragon, escorting them to his stronghold on Khar Delba. Subsequently, the Starbreaker 12 was covertly seized and relocated to Khar Delba by Sadow's Massassi operatives. Discovering Sadow's treachery, his rival, Ludo Kressh, promptly attacked Khar Delba. During the ensuing conflict, Sadow facilitated Jori's escape aboard the Starbreaker 12, albeit after secretly affixing a tracking device to the vessel. This device ultimately guided him back to the Galactic Republic, enabling him to launch an offensive. Upon Jori's return to her native world of Koros Major, the Starbreaker 12 was confiscated by Ssk Kahorr as compensation for the destruction of the Zeta Five. Kahorr, intending to assess the ship's capabilities, embarked on a test flight, only for the Starbreaker 12 to be obliterated by Sadow's extensive Sith fleet, which had followed the tracking device back to the Republic.
The Starbreaker 12 was equipped with two solar sails positioned on the exterior of the vehicle, along with a hyperdrive. Below the cockpit on the exterior of the ship, a cluster of tendril-like extensions protruded from the interior. When activated, the engines emitted a yellow glow, and the extremities extending from the main body of the ship were interconnected by wires. The [hull](/article/hull-legends] exhibited an uneven texture and a tan coloration. The cockpit featured seating for both the pilot and copilot, with the primary controls arranged on a dashboard in front of them. The dashboard incorporated controls for the hyperdrive, utilizing a dial system for coordinate input. Additionally, the ship included a dormitory area furnished with bunk beds. Beneath the beds, a footlocker contained blasters and other armaments.
The Starbreaker 12 was initially the property of starship operators Hok and Timar Daragon, functioning as a backup to their primary vessel, the Shadow Runner. The Daragons had two offspring, Gav and Jori, who also aspired to become starship operators. In 5000 BBY, the Unification Wars raged within the Daragons' home system, the Koros system, where Empress Teta, the political leader, initiated a campaign to unite the seven worlds of the system. Teta's forces successfully unified six of the seven worlds, but their campaign encountered a stalemate at the final world, Kirrek, where rebel forces besieged the Tetan army within their citadel. With dwindling supplies, numerous starship operators, including the Daragons in the Shadow Runner, commenced supply runs to the Tetan forces. Although Gav and Jori desired to accompany them in the Starbreaker 12, the ship was held as collateral by Aarrba, who managed Aarrba's Repair Dock, for repairs to the Shadow Runner. Tragically, Hok and Timar Daragon did not return from this mission, having been killed by rebel gun turrets. Upon learning of their demise, Aarrba bequeathed the Starbreaker 12 to the Daragon siblings. With heavy hearts, the pair pledged to explore the galaxy aboard the Starbreaker 12.
Subsequently, Gav and Jori Daragon became hyperspace pioneers, although their endeavors were not particularly fruitful. During their ventures, the ship frequently sustained damage and required repairs by Aarrba. On one of their more successful expeditions aboard the Starbreaker 12, the Daragons managed to chart a shortcut to the Goluud system; this route, dubbed the Goluud Corridor, received approval from Shodon Ko, a bureaucrat within the Navigators' Guild. However, the route's high-risk factor, owing to its proximity to the system's unstable red supergiant star, Primus Goluud, diminished its potential utilization by others.
The Daragons rapidly accumulated debt and creditors, eventually being compelled to sell their residence in Cinnagar to cover repairs to the Starbreaker 12. On one occasion, the duo attempted to navigate the perilous Starswarm Cluster. While they successfully traversed the cluster, the Starbreaker 12 suffered extensive damage, rendering the mapped route worthless. Consequently, they limped back to Aarrba's Repair Dock in their damaged ship. Unable to afford the repair costs, Aarrba retained the ship at his dock until the Daragons could settle their debt.
In the meantime, the Daragons found themselves embroiled in significant trouble. Ssk Kahorr, the ruthless Cha'a merchant lord, incensed by the loss of his ship Zeta Five in the Goluud Corridor, dispatched assassins to target the Daragons. The bounty hunters cornered the Daragons in a dead-end alley, but they were rescued by Jedi Knights Memit Nadill and Odan-Urr. The Jedi advised them to promptly depart Cinnagar, prompting the Daragons to devise a daring scheme to steal the Starbreaker 12 from Aarrba's Repair Dock and flee to parts unknown. Despite successfully retrieving the ship from the hangar, they were pursued by Cinnagar security forces upon reaching orbit. The Starbreaker 12 evaded the security ships and executed a jump into the unknown.

The Starbreaker 12's trajectory extended beyond the farthest reaches of any vessel originating from the Galactic Republic. Following a protracted journey, the Daragons emerged above a mysterious world. The Starbreaker 12 had ventured deep into an inadequately mapped region of the galaxy, although the return course remained programmed into the navicomputer in case of a need to return home. Uncertain of the planet's habitability, the Daragons resolved to land and investigate.
As the Starbreaker 12 descended through the planet's atmosphere, the Daragons observed a magnificent display of monuments, gold, and jewels. Piloting the Starbreaker 12 over a vast canyon, they spotted ships and people. The Daragons opted to land the ship within this canyon. However, they were promptly apprehended by the natives. Unbeknownst to them, they had stumbled upon the legendary Sith Empire, which had remained isolated for centuries. The Starbreaker 12 had landed in the tomb-laden Valley of the Dark Lords, which was currently hosting the funeral of the deceased Dark Lord of the Sith Marka Ragnos, an event that had devolved into a duel between rival Sith Lords Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh.
The Starbreaker 12 was impounded in the hangar of the Sith Citadel on the world of Ziost, while Gav and Jori Daragon were imprisoned in a small cell on the prisoner level. A heated debate ensued regarding the fate of the Daragons and their ship; Ludo Kressh advocated for their execution, while Naga Sadow argued that they possessed valuable information and should be spared. Ultimately, the decision was made to execute the Daragons. Despite this, the fate of the Starbreaker 12 remained uncertain. The ship was guarded by a Sith slave, although the slave had limited capacity to prevent intruders.
On one occasion, Naga Sadow instructed two of his Massassi warriors to retrieve weapons from the ship. The warriors easily overpowered the guard and entered the ship, extracting two blasters from a footlocker in the dormitory area. These blasters were subsequently utilized in an attack led by Sadow on the Sith Citadel's prisoner level, covertly freeing the Daragons from their cell and concealing them in his citadel on the planet Khar Delba. Sadow strategically placed the blasters at the scene to simulate a Republic attack, inciting a frenzy within the Sith Empire. Capitalizing on this opportunity, Sadow declared himself the new Dark Lord of the Sith.
The Starbreaker 12 was safeguarded by Ludo Kressh and his personal guards in its Ziost holding bay. However, the guards soon came under attack by forces affiliated with Dark Lord Naga Sadow. Kressh's guards were overwhelmed, and the Starbreaker 12 was stolen and transported to Khar Delba. Arriving at the scene after the Starbreaker 12 had been taken, Kressh initially attributed the attack to the Republic. However, he discovered Sadow's emblem at the hangar, revealing Sadow's involvement. On Khar Delba, Sadow presented the Starbreaker 12 to Jori Daragon, whom he had kept at the citadel. An elated Daragon desired to take the ship and return to the Republic, but Sadow cautioned her to exercise prudence. Suddenly, the citadel was attacked by Ludo Kressh and his fleet.
With Kressh and his allies bombarding the world from orbit, Sadow instructed Jori Daragon to depart without her brother. Daragon took off in the Starbreaker 12, only to find herself amidst the space battle. Kressh spotted the ship and ordered his starfighter pilots to destroy it; however, the Starbreaker 12 evaded them and jumped into hyperspace, destined for the Koros system. Unbeknownst to Daragon, Sadow had affixed a tracking device to the Starbreaker 12's hull, enabling him to eventually launch an attack on the Republic itself.
Upon Jori Daragon's emergence from hyperspace above Koros Major aboard the Starbreaker 12, the ship narrowly avoided colliding with a Cinnagar Control command ship. Ignoring warnings from Cinnagar Control, Jori Daragon attempted to inform them of the Sith. However, the Starbreaker 12 had been placed on a wanted list following its initial escape from the Koros system, prompting Cinnagar Control to dispatch starfighters to intercept the ship. Jori Daragon maneuvered the Starbreaker 12 toward the planet's surface, prompting the starfighters to fire a warning shot at the ship. Daragon continued to accelerate the ship toward the planet, landing it in a bustling Cinnagar square. Upon disembarking, Daragon was apprehended by Cinnagar Control. Her accounts of the Sith were met with skepticism, and a large crowd gathered around the ship, including Aarrba. Also present was Ssk Kahorr, who asserted legal ownership of the ship. Pursuant to a decision by the Merchants' Guild, the ship had been granted to Kahorr as compensation for the destruction of Zeta Five. Jori Daragon was detained by Cinnagar authorities as Kahorr took possession of the ship, and she was sentenced to labor on the colony world of Ronika, a predicament from which she later escaped.
Now in possession of the Starbreaker 12, Ssk Kahorr and his personal assistant Gorrm decided to embark on a test flight to evaluate the ship's capabilities. However, a proximity alert suddenly sounded, and Gorrm detected numerous ships emerging from hyperspace. A large battle fleet materialized before them, alarming Kahorr and Gorrm. The battle fleet was commanded by Naga Sadow, who had followed the Starbreaker 12's beacon back to the Republic. Despite the Starbreaker 12's attempt to flee, Sadow's fleet destroyed the ship.

Initially, the Starbreaker 12 was owned by Hok and Timar Daragon, who used it as a backup for their primary ship, the Shadow Runner. After their deaths, the ship was inherited by their children, Gav and Jori Daragon. Within the Sith Empire, the ship was briefly commandeered by Massassi warriors before being returned to Jori Daragon. Following Jori Daragon's return to Republic space with the Starbreaker 12, Ssk Kahorr legally acquired the ship as compensation for the destruction of Zeta Five. Ssk Kahorr, along with his personal assistant Gorrm, only had the opportunity to fly the ship once before its destruction.
The Starbreaker 12 made its debut in The Golden Age of the Sith, a story arc within the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi comic series penned by Kevin J. Anderson and released in 1996. Subsequently, it appeared in The Golden Age of the Sith's sequel arc, The Fall of the Sith Empire, where it was destroyed. In these appearances, the Starbreaker 12 was illustrated by Dario Carrasco, Jr., and preliminary black-and-white sketches of the ship were included at the end of the first issue of Golden Age of the Sith.
