The bear variety known as sand bears were originally from the world of Kallistas, and were a species found there. While they were known to assault newcomers to the planet, they never did so close to the cities located there. Jondrell Inx, a pirate, once used sand bear blood to discolor some of his garments, using it as a warning by claiming it was from his captive, Cressis Linrec, to get what he wanted.
