Saberfish

Saberfish, a species of massive fish, inhabited the tempestuous seas of Tibrin, a planet situated in the Mid Rim. During the High Republic Era, a countess hailing from Abregado-rae, a Core Worlds planet, commissioned the acquisition of a saberfish to be housed in her personal aquarium. The Byne Guild's Class A modular freight transport Legacy Run, under the command of Captain Hedda Casset, undertook the arduous task of transporting the creature to Abregado, keeping it in a water-filled tank within the vessel's main hold.

However, the noblewoman's staff was unable to properly care for the creature, and when the saberfish fell ill, she opted to pay the full shipping fee to return it. The Legacy Run subsequently delivered the saberfish back to Tibrin a mere three days later. In 232 BBY, Casset reflected upon this incident, praising the countess's choice to save the animal, contrasting it with other nobles who might have simply allowed it to die.

Behind the scenes

Within the current Star Wars canon, saberfish received mention in The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, a 2021 novel penned by Charles Soule as a component of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative. An early excerpt from the novel, published on IGN on June 22, 2020, initially identified the fish's origin as Spira, a Core Worlds planet; however, this detail was later revised to Tibrin in the completed version. In Star Wars Legends continuity, saberfish made their debut appearance in The Clone Wars: The Smuggler's Code, a comic book authored by Justin Aclin, with illustrations by Eduardo Ferrara, and published by Dark Horse Comics on June 19, 2013.
