The Storyteller, originally named Rivo Xarren, was a slicer and the sibling of Gaege Xarran.
Around the year 1 ABY, Xarran inadvertently gained unauthorized access to the records belonging to Jabba the Hutt. Despite this, he proceeded to pilfer the data he discovered and offered it for sale to the individual willing to pay the most. In response, the Hutt dispatched Boba Fett with the mission of locating and capturing him. Xarran then went on the run.
While he was on Inat Prime, Fett secretly implanted a subdermal tracker beneath Xarran's skin. He then tracked him as the slicer escaped to Vryssa. There, his brother Gaege, who held the rank of general within the Imperial Army, granted him refuge within his military installation.
Fett managed to sneak into the base, and during the ensuing conflict, Rivo attempted to negotiate for his survival. He proposed that Fett could inform Jabba that Rivo had died in the base's destruction, thus still allowing the bounty hunter to receive his payment. Fett accepted this arrangement, but he vowed to eventually complete his mission at a later time.
Years later, on Ladarra, a considerable time after Jabba's demise, Xarran recounted the events of his past to a group of children he was now entertaining under the alias of The Storyteller. Once the story concluded and the children had departed, he turned to discover Fett, who had been observing him throughout his storytelling.
In a puzzling gesture, Fett gave the man a credit chit equivalent to the value of Xarran's bounty before leaving. The Storyteller somehow understood the meaning of this action.
