Rhondi Tremaine

Born on a colony within [the Maw](/article/maw_cluster/legends], Rhondi Tremaine was a Human female who served in the Maw Irregular Fleet. She and her brother, Rolund Tremaine, operated as spies, gathering crucial intelligence. In 41 ABY, the destruction of Centerpoint Station triggered a Force-driven urge in both siblings, compelling them to seek out Sinkhole Station, a smaller-scale version of Centerpoint. Upon arriving at Sinkhole, the siblings joined the Mind Walkers, Force-sensitives known for their complete immersion in the Force through the separation of their Force auras from their physical forms. During 43.5 ABY, Luke Skywalker, the exiled Jedi Grand Master, and his son Ben came to the station while investigating the reasons behind Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side.

As Luke underwent a mind walk, Ben grew increasingly paranoid, suspecting that the Mind Walkers intended to harm them. To ensure their safety, Ben coerced Rhondi into guiding him beyond shadows to reach Luke. He then trapped Rolund in an adjacent room, rigging the door with a detonator to prevent interference. While the Skywalkers were exploring beyond shadows, a group of Sith warriors from Kesh infiltrated the station, seeking to assassinate the Skywalkers. Once Rhondi and the Skywalkers had returned from beyond shadows, one of the Sith triggered the detonator that Ben had set on the door of the room where Rolund was trapped. Rhondi rushed to the sealed door, only to be killed instantly when a lightsaber, wielded by one of the Sith slicing through the door, pierced her head.

Biography

Early life

Sometime in the past, the Human female known as Rhondi Tremaine was born on a colony located in the Maw. This colony was part of a secret fleet established by Admiral Natasi Daala. In their youth, Rhondi and her brother, Rolund Tremaine, were deemed unsuitable for military service due to their inherent Force-sensitivity. As they matured, they were instead employed as spies for the colony. Rhondi's assignments ranged from gathering intelligence to commandeering ships for the Irregular Fleet. This skilled espionage team enabled Daala to maintain the colony's prosperity.

For a decade, the Tremaines served this group until the outbreak of the Second Galactic Civil War. The destruction of Centerpoint Station triggered intense yearnings in Rhondi and all the other Force-sensitives within the secret fleet, compelling them to return to their homeworlds. When their requests for departure were denied, they became increasingly paranoid, eventually believing that the entire war was orchestrated to expose them. This paranoia led to a mass desertion, with those affected stealing ships to reach the heart of the Maw. There, they discovered Sinkhole Station, a smaller-scale replica of Centerpoint and the home of the Force-sensitive Mind Walkers. Rhondi and her brother joined the Mind Walkers and learned that these beings could separate their Force presences from their physical bodies to access a realm known as the beyond shadows. This was achieved through meditation, visualizing the numbers one through seven, at which point they would be completely severed.

Aiding the Skywalkers

After two years with the Mind Walkers, Rhondi encountered Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker and his son Ben when they visited Sinkhole Station while seeking answers to Jacen Solo's descent to the dark side of the Force. The Skywalkers initially interacted with the siblings while Rhondi was accompanied by fellow Mind Walkers Seek Ryontarr and Feryl, who agreed to guide Luke beyond shadows. During Luke's absence, Rhondi and Rolund frequently visited Ben aboard the Jade Shadow. Their conversations were often punctuated by the siblings secretly pilfering food from the Shadow's supplies, hoping to starve Ben into venturing beyond shadows.

During one of their visits, Ben mentioned that Luke's hydration tube repeatedly dislodged from his mouth, prompting him to plan administering an IV to his father. However, Rhondi and Rolund knew that the tube wasn't falling out accidentally; a Mind Walker was intentionally removing it. When Ben questioned their motives, Rhondi explained that Luke didn't require sustenance while beyond shadows, as the Force would sustain him. She also confessed that they were depleting the Jade Shadow's stores to demonstrate to Ben that he, too, could rely solely on the Force for survival. Ben began to suspect that the Mind Walkers were plotting to kill him, leading him to confine Rolund in a room on the station's exterior and shackle Rhondi to the floor with stun cuffs. This was done to ensure that if he died beyond shadows, she would be unable to free her brother. Rhondi vehemently protested for her brother's life, but ultimately agreed to Skywalker's proposal, realizing that the only way to save Rolund was to guide Skywalker beyond shadows and ensure his safe return.

Together, they ventured beyond shadows, where they discovered Luke with Ryontarr and Feryl near the Lake of Apparitions, a body of water that allowed communication with the spirits of the deceased. Seek disapproved of Tremaine's agreement with Skywalker, as a mysterious woman within the Mists of Forgetfulness across the lake desired Luke's presence, and they didn't want Ben to intervene and persuade Luke to return to his body. Luke decided to speak with the woman, and Tremaine led the Skywalkers toward her, cautioning them to remain directly behind her to avoid falling into the Depths of Eternity. Along their journey, the Skywalkers encountered the spirits of Anakin Solo, Luke's nephew and Ben's cousin, Mara Jade Skywalker, Luke's wife, and Darth Caedus himself. Mara urged them to turn back, but Caedus assured them that they had ample time to reach the woman. Upon hearing Caedus, the Skywalkers sensed danger and decided to return from beyond shadows.

Upon returning to their physical bodies, the two Jedi and Tremaine debated the reality of the lake and the entities they had encountered. When Ben suggested that the presence he felt there was driving Jedi insane, Tremaine countered that they were not insane, but rather being called home. When Tremaine requested the release of her hands, Ben revealed that he hadn't locked the cuffs, in case he died beyond shadows.

Unbeknownst to those on Sinkhole Station, a Sith strike team from the Lost Tribe of Sith had infiltrated the station with the intention of killing the Skywalkers. While she was recovering from her journey beyond shadows, the Sith invaded the station, triggering the detonator in the room where Ben had left Rolund. Tremaine rushed to the control room door, pounding on it in an attempt to break through. Before the Skywalkers could warn her to retreat, a lightsaber wielded by one of the Sith pierced through the door and into Tremaine's head, resulting in her immediate death.

Personality and traits

Rhondi Tremaine shared a profound connection with her brother Rolund, maintaining a strong Force bond. They served together under Admiral Daala's command for many years and remained united after joining the Mind Walkers at Sinkhole Station. When Ben threatened her brother's life by trapping him in a sealed room, Tremaine vehemently protested and pleaded with Ben to stop. She was compelled to guide Ben beyond shadows and ensure his survival to protect Rolund's life, suggesting that she didn't fully embrace the Mind Walkers' core philosophy—that only the Force mattered, even over life and death.
