Rannon

Rannon, a planet blanketed in forested terrain, existed within the Instrop sector of the Outer Rim Territories'. Settlement occurred centuries prior to the rise of the New Republic, with a population of ten million Humans and Rodians residing there, managing their communities through a collaborative council system.

After the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Dark Jedi known as Danaan Kerr established his abode in Rannon's Valley of Ternaax. By 7 ABY, Kerr perceived the Galactic Emperor's Palpatine's survival following his death at Endor, causing his dark side influence to intensify and corrupt the valley where he dwelled. Kerr then commenced a reign of terror upon Rannon's inhabitants, with stories of the Dark Jedi's cruel acts reaching beyond the planet. Ultimately, an assembly of individuals ventured into the Valley of Ternaax, where they encountered Kerr.

Description

Rannon was a terrestrial planet found far away in the Rannon system, which was part of the Instrop sector located in the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories. This planet was the third orbit from its star, the yellow-white Rannon, and it possessed two of its own moons. Rannon took 380 local days to complete one revolution around its sun, with each day lasting twenty standard hours.

Rannon possessed standard gravity, a Type I atmosphere suitable for breathing, and a pleasing temperate climate. Its surface was characterized by mountainous forests and a considerable hydrosphere.

History

Colonization of Rannon occurred many centuries before the New Republic era. After the death of Galactic Emperor Palpatine during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the deranged Dark Jedi Danaan Kerr also made the planet his home, choosing to live as a hermit in Rannon's Valley of Ternaax. By 7 ABY, Kerr began to sense disturbances in the dark side of the Force, indicating that Palpatine had actually survived by inhabiting a clone body. Following this discovery, Kerr's malevolence and corruption began to surface, altering the valley in which he resided.

Kerr started to manipulate the people of Rannon and terrorize the inhabitants, with tales of the Dark Jedi's atrocities spreading throughout the Instrop sectors and beyond. Furthermore, Kerr instructed several individuals in the ways of the Force. Eventually, General Airen Cracken of the New Republic took note of the rumors that Kerr was living in the Rannon system in Wanted by Cracken, a datafile that collected reports of threats to the New Republic.

Sometime later, a group of individuals journeyed to Rannon. A Force-sensitive member of the group detected a disturbance in the Force caused by Kerr, although the group gained little information from the locals. Eventually, a local, considered to be insane, revealed the existence of Kerr and the Valley of Ternaax. The group then explored the valley and encountered the Dark Jedi himself.

Inhabitants

Rannon was populated by ten million Humans and Rodians, who had a space-faring civilization. While the local population exported foodstuffs and gems, their homeworld did not possess any exceptional resources. Rannon appeared to be a simple world to most, but it was capable of serving as a home, and it did not require significant imports.

Settlements were located across Rannon's surface, and the native society governed itself through a cooperative council made up of representatives from each town. The council established standard laws that applied to every settlement. During the New Republic era, the Dark Jedi Danaan Kerr also resided on Rannon as a hermit.

Locations

The Valley of Ternaax was a vibrant and beautiful area of Rannon covered in forests. It was situated far from the planet's settlements and was initially only known to the Dark Jedi Danaan Kerr. Due to the manifestation of Kerr's dark side corruption, the valley's landscape eventually became decayed, dark, and evil. Rannon also featured a spaceport that offered limited services.

Behind the scenes

Rannon was first mentioned in the 1993 Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game supplement Wanted by Cracken, authored by Louis J. Prosperi for West End Games. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Rannon system, and therefore the planet, in grid square T-17.
