R'cardo Sooflie IX

R'cardo Sooflie IX held the title of Prince ruling over the world of Lannik and led the Lannik lineage. Universally disliked on his own world, he was viewed as a heartless and haughty leader. This unpopularity fueled increased support for the planet's rebel forces.

Biography

Sooflie holds court on Malastare

It appears that Sooflie's reign only made the planet's pre-existing conflicts worse, and the world was soon embroiled in a civil war spurred on by the radical Red Iaro terrorist organization. The Prince seemed utterly unaware of his royal obligations, or his inability to fulfill them. When Jedi Master Even Piell presented himself as the Jedi who had previously thwarted an attempt to assassinate Sooflie's royal parents, the King and Queen, instead of showing gratitude, Sooflie complained that Piell's actions had only delayed his own rise to power by saving his parents' lives.

A few months after the Invasion of Naboo, peace negotiations took place between the warring sides on the world of Malastare. However, the Prince's rigid and unyielding stance hindered any real progress. When the initial discussions failed, Hutar Zash, Sooflie's military advisor and a longtime loyalist to the royal family, became discouraged and assisted the Red Iaro in a scheme to falsely accuse the Prince of attempting to assassinate the Jedi mediators. When this scheme failed, the Iaro directly targeted Sooflie.

Upon being captured in his chambers on Malastare by the Red Iaro, Sooflie fearfully inquired if they intended to demand a ransom for his release. Myk'chur Finux Zug, who was the leader of the Red Iaro, countered that while that would normally be a good idea, Sooflie was so universally despised on Lannik that the populace would likely pay a fortune to keep him imprisoned for life—and, given that fact, it would be easier to simply eliminate him then and there. As Zug pushed Sooflie closer to the jaws of an akk dog, the Jedi burst into the building and fought off the Red Iaro. Yaddle dispatched one akk dog while Mace Windu used the Force to calm the other.

In a move typical of his character, Sooflie immediately left Malastare without offering even a word of thanks to the Jedi who had saved him.
