The Mist-Weavers constituted a spiritual group, having lived "thousands" of generations prior to the era of the New Republic, back when "the stars were in their infancy and certain planets were still in the process of formation." Their devotion was directed towards the Force, which they knew as the "Luminous Mist." These individuals possessed the ability to manipulate the Force, creating luminous, enduring characters and non-representational artwork. They pioneered a technique of "spinning" typically imperceptible Force threads into robust, silken filaments. A marooned biologist characterized the self-repairing shields crafted from these filaments as having a rubbery, flexible texture, akin to "a frozen waterfall." The prominent Mist-Weavers, Shareen, Awglk, and Wkk'e, employed these strands to encase themselves in protective cocoons, thereby decelerating the passage of time following their entrapment within an age-old exogorth.
