Mentis Qinx

As a technician on the planet of Tatooine, Mentis Qinx ran a docking bay. He offered credit to those in need, but in exchange, demanded significant fees. The bounty hunters Jango and Boba Fett both used his services, and he was instrumental in improving their shared starship, the Slave I. In fact, the younger Fett had Qinx perform a complete renovation of the Slave I.

Biography

Jango Fett (right) owed Mentis Qinx credits, which Boba Fett (left) would later find himself responsible for.

Operating out of Mos Espa on Tatooine, Mentis Qinx, a male mechanic, maintained a docking bay and employed a 3D-4X administrative droid. He was known for providing credit to those who needed it, but he insisted on exorbitant fees as repayment, which his clients often struggled to afford. When clients failed to pay, Qinx was notorious for impounding their starships. The famous bounty hunter Jango Fett had previously conducted business with Qinx and had accumulated a considerable debt. In 22 BBY, Fett's identical clone, Boba Fett, arrived at the docking bay and was greeted by the 3D-4X administrative droid, who informed him about his father's debt to Qinx. The young Fett attempted to settle the debt but lacked sufficient funds. Consequently, the boy informed the administrative droid that he would settle the remaining balance after a meeting with Jabba the Hutt.

Despite the droid's attempts to remind Fett of Qinx's specific instructions, Fett insisted on departing, stating that it was unwise to keep Jabba waiting, a sentiment with which the droid concurred. Fett, who was actually unfamiliar with Qinx, later discovered that Qinx had a habit of stealing ships from an Etti named Estral. Fett successfully deceived the administrative droid into convincing Qinx to extensively overhaul his starsfighter, the Slave I. Qinx upgraded the power cells, installed new covers to conceal turbolasers and missile launchers, enhanced the engineering console, and replaced the hardware grid. By 19 BBY, Fett considered Qinx to be his personal mechanic and was awaiting another hardware grid upgrade from Qinx to accommodate stealth technology. He also had a standing request to upgrade the Slave I's shields and external weapon systems.
