Leox Gyasi was a pilot of the male human species who was employed by the Byne Guild during the era known as the High Republic Era. He piloted the starship named Vessel, with Affie Hollow as his co-pilot and Geode handling navigation as the navigator. The Vessel's crew received orders to transport four Jedi to the Starlight Beacon; however, the starship was compelled to disengage from hyperspace due to the presence of wreckage resulting from the Great Hyperspace Disaster.
Hollow, whom Gyasi affectionately nicknamed "Little Bit," was someone he cared for deeply. He possessed empathy and could discern when others needed to talk or preferred solitude. Despite these traits, Gyasi demonstrated a capacity for dishonesty, engaging in the illicit trade of medicinal spice (which he maintained was not illegal) and accepting payment from the Jedi for their return passage to the Amaxine space station, even though Gyasi and Hollow were already planning to travel there independently of the Jedi's wishes.
Gyasi identified as asexual, indicating a lack of interest in sexual activities. Similarly, he showed no interest in romantic relationships and did not feel desire for other individuals.
Claudia Gray conceived Leox Gyasi for Star Wars: The High Republic, a publishing project, and he made an appearance in her novel The High Republic: Into the Dark, which was released on February 2, 2021. An excerpt from the novel, featuring the character, was made available in The High Republic Free Digital Sampler on December 12, 2020. Later, concept art illustrating Gyasi was unveiled during a live launch event for The High Republic on January 4, 2021.
In the process of writing Into the Dark, Gray aimed to develop a pilot character who embodied the energy of a scoundrel but differed from Han Solo. Gyasi's character was inspired by the idea of giving a spacecraft to Matthew McConaughey as he appeared in the 1990s.
