In the initial phases of the Clone Wars, a war between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Laytron, with the rank of lieutenant, was sent to Cartao. He served as a backup to Commander Roshton's primary operation during the battle. Laytron's troops were positioned to act as an evacuation force for Roshton's soldiers if things went badly. After Separatist forces attempted to seize Foulahn City and Spaarti Creations, Kinman Doriana divulged Lieutenant Laytron's location to Jedi Knight Jafer Torles and Lord Pilester Binalie. They hoped to leverage Laytron's forces to liberate Roshton. A stickler for regulations, Laytron initially declined Torles' plea for aid. However, upon Binalie's revelation of a fourth Outlink situated on Spaarti Creations' property, Laytron concluded that a successful mission was plausible.
