Kef Bir, also known as IX3244-C, is referred to as the Ocean Moon of Endor. This moon, characterized by its ocean, orbits the gas giant Endor, situated within the Endor system. Jannah, a human female freedom fighter who commanded a tribe of courageous warriors by the time of the First Order-Resistance War, made her home on this moon following a mutiny during the Battle of Ansett Island. Fragments and remnants from the second Death Star ultimately crashed onto Kef Bir.
Within the Moddell sector of the Outer Rim Territories, resting at coordinates H-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid, lies Kef Bir, an ocean moon in orbit around Endor. Initially almost completely submerged, a series of catastrophic events led to the release of water into the atmosphere and significant tectonic activity, resulting in the emergence of more extensive land areas. Since these events, the moon is now largely defined by its oceans, including the Kef Sur Ocean, and grassland islands like the Angkuadi islands. Shoduah is one of the continents found on the moon. During high tide, waves can surge to heights exceeding 120 meters. The environment is characterized by its saline composition.
The Ewoks residing on the nearby Forest Moon of Endor gave the moon the name Kef Bir at some point in the past.
The original plan was for the Death Star II to orbit Kef Bir. However, due to the moon's limited ore resources, the station was moved to the forest moon, and no garrison was ever stationed on Kef Bir.
In 4 ABY, the Rebel Alliance successfully attacked the Death Star II, leading to its destruction. The ensuing wreckage, which included the remains of the superlaser dish and the Emperor's Throne Room, fell into the orbit of Kef Bir before eventually plummeting into its seas. The reactor's explosion caused strange physics, and several large pieces of debris were thrown into hyperspace. No scientist or sentient being witnessed this event, and no one could explain what factors prevented a disaster. For years, wreckage from the moon-sized base rained down on Kef Bir and collided with nearby asteroids, resulting in a chain reaction of bolide strikes on the moon's surface and atmosphere. After the Death Star's crash, toxic and nuclear waste from the base contaminated Kef Bir's marine ecosystems, triggering a global ecological crisis.
Decades prior to 35 ABY, Kef Bir experienced several cataclysmic events that caused its water to vent into the atmosphere and resulted in further tectonic upheaval, creating more landmasses. Some suggest that the destruction of the second Death Star was the cause. In the decade leading up to 35 ABY, the moon's geologic processes had become calmer, and life was beginning to take hold.

In 35 ABY, Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Chewbacca journeyed to Kef Bir, guided by directions on Ochi's dagger as translated by C-3PO, to locate a Wayfinder belonging to Darth Sidious on Exegol, which was located within the remnants of Death Star II. There, they encountered Jannah, a former First Order Stormtrooper who, along with her tribe, resided on the ocean moon. Rey discovered the Wayfinder in the Emperor's Throne Room, but Kylo Ren confronted her and destroyed it. During their duel, Rey stabbed Ren as he was distracted by sensing the death of his mother, Leia Organa. Rey healed him, commandeered his TIE/wi modified interceptor, and left him stranded within the wreckage of Death Star II.
Kef Bir made its debut in the 2019 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. The footage was filmed in Buckinghamshire, England, and subsequently digitally altered to create the stormy coastline depicted in the movie.

On October 23, 2019, the Disney Parks Blog revealed that the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue attractions at Disneyland, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland would be updated to incorporate a scene set on Kef Bir. This update mirrored previous additions of planets featured in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
