Blubs were a species of fish that were native to the ocean surrounding the moon called Kef Bir; they were considered a marine species. To sustain themselves, the human deserters from the First Order known as Company 77 who resided on the moon, engaged in fishing for both blubs and striped canths amidst the turbulent waters where substantial schools of both species congregated; these creatures served as a primary food source. After a successful day spent fishing, the fishers would return to shore and cook their catch of blubs and striped canths over open fires, having completely filled the two sea skiffs utilized for the purpose. The company members demonstrated resourcefulness by maximizing the utility of what they killed, utilizing not only the meat but also various other byproducts.
The first mention of Blubs appeared in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released in 2019.
