During the Cold War era, specifically between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire, a periodical titled the Journal of Xenomedicine was published on a regular basis. The publication focused primarily on documenting significant breakthroughs and prominent individuals involved in xenomedicine, which involves studying the biology and medicine of alien lifeforms. Famously, the Journal once published an article that detailed the mating rituals and extended lifespans of the Wookiee species. Archiban Kimble, a xenopathologist and combat medic commonly referred to as Doc, reached out to the Journal after he successfully treated Suudaa Nem'ro, a Hutt, for a rare ailment; however, they were unable to study the Hutt before Skadge, a Houk bounty hunter, murdered Nem'ro.
The Journal of Xenomedicine is referenced numerous times within the series of dialogues with Doc, a companion character available to the Jedi Knight class in the 2011 BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. The conversations regarding Nem'ro culminate in a connection with the Bounty Hunter class, as Skadge, a companion for that class, abandons the player character to pursue the Hutt who had betrayed him, an event depicted in the conversation titled "Slugfest."
