Jiroch-Saloch

Jiroch-Saloch, alternatively called Saloch, existed as a planet situated within the Yushan sector of the Mid Rim. After acquiring technology that spanned the galaxy, the Tunroth species, who were devoted to hunting, established a colony on this world. Spacers collectively named Jiroch-Saloch, alongside the other planets in the Jiroch system, specifically Jiroch-Reslia and Jiroch-Kalok, the Triumvirate. Furthermore, a considerable number of Duros made their home on the planet, significantly shaping its architectural style.

Description

Jiroch-Saloch, which is also known as Saloch, was a terrestrial planet and the fifth orbital body from its star in the Jiroch system. This system could be found in the Western Reaches area of the Yushan sector in the Mid Rim, and was linked to the Dalisor system and the Quamar system in the Bruanii sector via the Corellian Trade Spine hyperlane.

History

The Reslian Purge, during which the Lortan Fanatics (a member depicted on the bottom left) attacked the Jiroch system

Many millennia before the Galactic Civil War, the Tunroth species established colonies on the Jiroch system planets of Jiroch-Saloch and Jiroch-Kalok. This occurred after they joined the Galactic Republic, which gave them access to galactic-level technology and enabled them to develop hyperdrive capabilities. Jiroch-Saloch, together with Jiroch-Kalok and Jiroch-Reslia, the Tunroth homeworld, were often called the Triumvirate by spacers in honor of the Assemblage of Three. The Assemblage was the governing body of Tunroth society, consisting of the three most skilled Tunroth hunters, who facilitated the colonization of Jiroch-Kalok and Jiroch-Saloch concurrently. A significant number of Duros also settled on both planets for a time, leaving a lasting mark on the area's architecture.

In 10 BBY, the Lortan Fanatics, driven by expansionist ideals, launched an assault on the Jiroch system, an event known as the Reslian Purge. The Tunroth, with their underdeveloped technology, could not defend themselves, resulting in millions of deaths and reducing their population to four million. The Galactic Empire intervened, stopping the fanatics and preventing further attacks, after which the three planets of the Jiroch system underwent reconstruction. Xarcce Huwla, a New Republic pilot of Tunroth descent, came from Jiroch-Saloch. Approximately nine months after the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, her home planet was identified on a profile displayed on a datapad viewed by Wedge Antilles, the leader of the New Republic's Rogue Squadron, when Huwla was recruited into the unit.

Inhabitants

The Tunroth species were the original settlers of Jiroch-Saloch. They established a peaceful civilization centered on hunting communities, where hunters held the highest status. Before joining the Republic and acquiring the technology necessary for Jiroch-Saloch's colonization, they had developed minimal technology beyond basic animal power. Despite later possessing advanced technology, few Tunroth ventured far into the galaxy, as many returned to their home system to help rebuild it. They lived in communes of around 50 to 300 people, each led by a tracker.

Behind the scenes

Jiroch-Saloch was first mentioned in an entry by C. Robert Carey in Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies, a roleplaying supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games in 1995. Initially referred to as Saloch, the planet's full name was provided in Ultimate Alien Anthology, a 2003 supplement for Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas located the Jiroch system, and therefore Jiroch-Saloch, in grid square K-17.
