Behind the scenes

J'Meeb Gumb's initial appearance was in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, a video game created by LucasArts and launched in December of 2002. Prior to his appearance in the game, he was featured in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter: Prima's Official Strategy Guide, the official strategy guide for the game, published by Prima Games and released in November of the same year. Within the game, Gumb is one of five bounty targets located in the Industrial District, which represents the second level of the game's second world.

In Bounty Hunter, the player assumes the role of Jango Fett, and because capturing Gumb's bounty is not essential for completing the game, the player has several options for dealing with him. The player can completely ignore Gumb, kill him without claiming the bounty, kill him and then claim the bounty, or capture him alive and claim the bounty. This article assumes that Fett captured Gumb alive, as this yields the highest possible reward for the player. The name J'Meeb Gumb bears a resemblance to Jame Gumb, the fictional serial killer and main antagonist from the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs, which was based on the novel of the same name.
