A male Jedi Knight named Ish-Bel Tur served the Jedi Order at the Almas Academy, which was a Jedi training institution situated on the planet Almas. This took place during the closing decades of the Galactic Republic. In the vicinity of 20 BBY, following the arrest of activist Gerta Haman for her condemnation of the Thaereian military (who the Republic had tasked with the defense of Almas and the broader Cularin system), Tur was assigned to accompany a Thaereian naval vessel transporting Haman to Coruscant. Tragically, the ship met its end in an explosion near the edge of Thaereian space while en route, resulting in the deaths of both Tur and Haman. Subsequently, Tur's lightsaber was taken as a trophy by Ku-Kak, a Force-sensitive wampa, and later wielded by Mischa Vorfren, an Anzat Force Adept.
During the last decades of the Galactic Republic, Ish-Bel Tur, a male individual with Force-sensitive abilities, dedicated his service to the Jedi Order. Stationed at the Almas Academy, a Jedi training facility located on the planet of Almas within the Cularin system, Tur achieved the rank of Jedi Knight. Furthermore, he constructed his own personal lightsaber that projected a green blade.
Circa 20 BBY, amidst the Clone Wars, Gerta Haman, an activist, was interviewed by Ryk Osentay, a journalist, for the "Eye on Cularin" news segment. The segment focused on a recent popular campaign within the Cularin system that condemned the Thaereian military, an armed force from the Thaereian system tasked by the Republic with maintaining order on Cularin. Haman was apprehended by the Thaereian military police during the broadcast after alleging that certain senior Thaereian officers had accepted a payment of 200 million credits from the InterGalactic Banking Clan, allies of the Separatists, the Republic's adversaries in the Clone Wars. The Thaereians consented to transport Haman to Coruscant for a meeting with Lavina Wren, the senator representing Cularin, to discuss Haman's accusations. The Jedi assigned Tur to accompany Haman, acting as both a protector and a representative of the Almas Academy.
While en route to Coruscant, the naval ship carrying Tur and Haman was attacked near the edge of Thaereian space. The ship transmitted a distress signal, but it detonated three minutes later, resulting in the deaths of Tur, Haman, and the entire Thaereian crew. Following the explosion, the Thaereian Government offered a significant reward for information regarding the cause of the ship's destruction. Shortly thereafter, Ryk Osentay reported the explosion and the deaths of Tur and Haman on an episode of "Eye on Cularin."
Ku-Kak, a Force-sensitive wampa who served as a bodyguard for the slaver Phylus Mon, later claimed Tur's lightsaber as a trophy. Mischa Vorfren, an Anzat Force Adept and another of Mon's subordinates, seized the weapon for himself and mastered its use.
Later, Mon and his followers journeyed to the Cularin system with the goal of infiltrating the Sith fortress on Almas and uncovering the secrets to creating Sith battlelords, a type of soldier developed by the Sith Lord Darth Rivan. However, Mon and his associates were defeated aboard Mon's ship, the Animiasma, by the "Heroes of Cularin," a group of freelance agents operating in the system. The agents then recovered Ish-Bel Tur's lightsaber from Vorfren.
Ish-Bel Tur's lightsaber projected a green blade and featured his personal emblem marked on the hilt.
Ish-Bel Tur was initially mentioned in "Thaere Is Not Your Friend," a short story penned by Morrie Mullins and published on Wizards.com in November 2003 as a promotional tie-in for Night's Homecoming, a roleplaying supplement within the Living Force campaign. Tur received a further mention in A Mon Alone, a 2004 Living Force module also by Mullins. Neither source specifies Tur's species.
In A Mon Alone, players roleplay as the Heroes of Cularin, with the possibility of acquiring Tur's lightsaber during their confrontation with Phylus Mon and his minions. This could occur through looting or by receiving it willingly from Mischa Vorfren in exchange for neutralizing a small explosive that Mon implanted in the Force Adept's heart to control him. If any player characters are Jedi, they can request permission from Jedi Masters Lanius Qel-Bertuk and Devan For'deschel to retain the weapon as a tribute to Tur. Otherwise, it must be returned to the Almas Academy for use in training Jedi Padawans.
Although it didn't specifically mention Ish-Bel Tur, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia (2008) introduced a minor inconsistency regarding Tur's final moments. "Thaere Is Not Your Friend" indicates that the Thaereian ship carrying Tur and Gerta Haman was traveling to Coruscant when they died, while Shaman's entry in the encyclopedia states that the ship was en route to Thaere Privo when it was destroyed.
