A Human male Imperial captain named Heliesk was in command of the Rand Ecliptic during the time of the Galactic Civil War. Biggs Darklighter and Derek Klivian were his second-in-command and third-in-command, respectively.
Serving the Galactic Empire as a captain, Heliesk took command of the Imperial II-class frigate called the Rand Ecliptic when it was first assigned to duty early in the Galactic Civil War. Two recent graduates from the Imperial Naval Academy, Biggs Darklighter and Derek "Hobbie" Klivian, were under his command, acting as the frigate's first and second mate.
Despite being a secret supporter and agent of the Rebel Alliance, operating under the code name Starfire, Heliesk kept up his facade as a devoted Imperial officer, openly dismissing the Rebellion as foolish and destined to fail.
During a routine patrol of a sector, the Rand Ecliptic came across the Lark, a starship that belonged to the Camblian Order from Eedoq. This ship was transporting 309 young individuals to the Clarion Scholars Academy located on Daemen. Because the Lark failed to provide the correct Imperial identification, Captain Heliesk dispatched TIE/LN starfighters from Twilight Squadron to either disable or completely destroy the Lark, claiming that it was a suspected Rebel vessel. Even though squadron leader Darklighter gave the order to disable the ship without causing harm, it was ultimately destroyed by Tars Nandy. Heliesk welcomed this outcome, stating that it would prevent days of prisoner interrogation, going against Darklighter's objections.
This apparent lack of regard for human life deeply disturbed Darklighter, which led him to initiate a mutiny aboard the Rand Ecliptic with the help of one of the ship's existing rebel cells. The mutiny revealed three other rebel cells, one under the leadership of Klivian, who then assumed command of the frigate. Heliesk barricaded himself within his own quarters, but he was soon apprehended due to his knowledge of Imperial communication codes and was held as a prisoner of war.
The depiction of the mutiny aboard the Rand Ecliptic and Heliesk's role in those events as presented in this article, which is based on Star Wars: Empire: Darklighter, is different from the account provided by Hobbie Klivian in the short story called "Mutiny on the Rand Ecliptic". According to the short story "Mutiny on the Rand Ecliptic", Heliesk willingly and secretly participated in Klivian and Darklighter's defection. As "Starfire," Heliesk was the Rebel contact for Lindy, a friend of Hobbie's. The defectors planned to abandon ship while the Rand Ecliptic was delivering rubindum ore to the Bestine system. In an attempt to provide the Rebel Alliance with the rubindum without revealing his allegiance to the Empire, Heliesk led a squad of stormtroopers to the rendezvous point of Lindy's rebels and the defectors. He brought the rebels onto the Rand Ecliptic and gave Klivian a rank cylinder that served as a key to the ship's captain's quarters. Once there, Heliesk told Klivian and Darklighter to stage a mutiny using the rebels as their crew, with the goal of delivering the ship and its cargo to the Alliance without jeopardizing his Imperial cover.
